the transmission is out of a low milage wrecked car that ran perfect before the accident, it goes into all gears when pushing by hand so we assume it did not get affected by the impact.

Suggestion

Turbo trans has much more flexibility to change gear ratios which will be a positive for you to gear the car longer so you are running lower than 2500 rpms at 70 mph.

Suggestion

I looked at running a Turbo trans when I did my LS swap and spoke pretty extensively with Bill Rader about it, but ended up rebuilding the 6MT out of my car.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I am planning to LS swap my C2, a friend of mine have an extra 996 turbo transmission lying around and willing to sell for me at a good price, which would save me money and time of rebuilding and LSD converting my current G96/00. I found this post while searching here: as I understand it will fit in the chassis but require modification regarding the shift cables and mounting points, am I correct?

POST 2Original post

Quotes source post: 16674800

There is definitely a difference in the way the transmission bolts to the car. If you look at the FunctionFirst website you can see the difference in the transmission mount insert which might give you an idea of the differences.

POST 3Original post

Turbo trans will also require a different mounting plate to your LS. Have you already bought the plate for the g96/00? Curious why you feel like the Turbo trans wouldnt require a rebuild? Is it lower miles? I looked at running a Turbo trans when I did my LS swap and spoke pretty extensively with Bill Rader about it, but ended up rebuilding the 6MT out of my car. Turbo trans has much more flexibility to change gear ratios which will be a positive for you to gear the car longer so you are running lower than 2500 rpms at 70 mph. Downside is that the rebuild on a turbo trans will get way more expensive than a standard g96/00. Do you have a hydraulic press to rebuild the trans yourself? There are some very well respected experts out there on these transmissions.

No I didn't buy anything yet, currently doing the research. the transmission is out of a low milage wrecked car that ran perfect before the accident, it goes into all gears when pushing by hand so we assume it did not get affected by the impact. one reason is what you mentioned regarding the gear ratios and thanks for the info of the cost, i assumed it would be the same. Unfortunately I don't have a press, nor any Porsche specialist in my country therefore I have to do all the work by myself. I found few shops that have press facilities and they willing to disassemble it for me.
