Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

you'd pay your shop the extra $500 in labour and thread repair inserts just to screw with it for hours as it broke and broke again.

having exhausted my tool supply i went online and, $100 later, an e-z lok m6 thin wall thread repair kit arrived; basically larger inserts to deal with the fact that the openings have already been drilled oversize.

time to go full bubba and get the jb weld out to try and repair the threads.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

It worked ok with the stock AOS, but one the UAOS.
so, this is a review of the spyder performance intake plenum. not a performance review, but rather a 'quality of the part' review.
folks who want to put a larger throttle body on their m9x cars are limited in options. now, i've no use or time for the debate as to whether this is worthwhile to do or not, i really don't care about your opinion on that one way or the other and that's not what this post is about.
to fit a larger throttle body (typically the gt3 throttle body at 82 mm ID; slightly larger than the 76 mm ID oem unit) you need a larger intake plenum. and you can't use the one off the gt3 because it is integral to the intake runners unlike our cars.
now, the only guys who make such a thing are ipd at $850 a unit. that's a lot of cash. that's why i was happy to find spyder performance on ebay, a shop in the uk selling a cast plenum to fit our cars sized for a gt3 throttle body. and a steal at only $350. no dimples, but $500 is a lot of coin for dimples.
so i ordered it, it arrived, and i tried to put it on my car. first thing, there is up to a 2 mm offset or lip between the throttle body and the plenum. so, i got my marking fluid and a dremel out and 'flowed' the plenum. then i gave it a closer inspection. rough casting. rough. anywhere that was not easy to get at (ie, the inner surfaces of the aos port) were unfinished. which made me sad, as it became very clear to me how porous the casting was. it appears to have been made from unwanted chinese soda cans.
then i tried to actually mount the throttle body. fastener torque spec is 10Nm/7.5'#. all of the fastener threads failed well before that however. so, helicoils came out, threads got repaired and ... helicoils pulled out. honestly, unwanted chinese soda cans.

throttle body is now on, but not to torque. i am afraid. hand tight and 1/2 turn like an npt thread. otherwise, the plenum installed ok, and i presume it will work fine as all it has to do is let air pass through it (hard to **** that up).
my advice? don't do it. you'd pay your shop the extra $500 in labour and thread repair inserts just to screw with it for hours as it broke and broke again. nor is the cost savings worth it for you to do it yourself; what the cost of your faith in humanity? really, i tried talking to spyder performance, explained the issue as i did above. their response? there wasn't one. dicks.
epilogue ... i'm really happy with the e-z lok inserts ...
Eek not good, I've just ordered coffin arms from them with poly bushes, they send them bare sobbing removing standard rubber to get your poly in, is why I went for them , and the price , they claim the parts are coming off the safe production line as all the top German aftermarket stuff, they seem ok to look at , not fitted yet so time may tell!
well, good luck! and say hi to them for me if you're talking to them. me, i couldn't leave well enough alone and the e-z loks pulled out at 7 Nm. time to go full bubba and get the jb weld out to try and repair the threads.
Hope you saved your original plenum and TB. You may have to go back. I have also heard of people who tried up-sizing the TB and plenum, and because the performance was so bad they went back to stock. Kind of like "cold air intakes" instead of the stock air filter box. No gain and actual loss of power/torque.
yeah, i have all the original stuff. it's for a 3.6 X51 so HP (345 stock but more with exhaust and tune) is getting close to the 996 gt3 (355) so presume porsche knew what they were doing when they went to the larger unit on the gt3.
Wow, Ben’s plenum worked great.
Only “issue” was the AOS Hose Connection.
It worked ok with the stock AOS, but one the UAOS.
I went back to stock when I installed my UAOS.
I considered getting an IPD plenum so I could go back to the GT3 throttle.
But I’m pretty happy with the stock TB, and don’t want to spend the money on the IPD.
