Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I'm think "rear bumper aero pieces".....this is from a car I looked at during my search: I am thinkig about getting my front bumper resprayed because it's chipped from the Reno dessert from its previous life....and if so, was thinking of getting the rear bumper over rides painted like in the picture and maybe get the rear aero pieces installed/painted. What are your thoughts on them? Anybody have a part number or name of the part? Thanks!

POST 2Original post

I believe the proper term is "Spatula" pronounced; Spah-choo- luh...

Paul, they are "rear GT Trim". I have them on my car. http://www.suncoastparts.com/product...650597800.html There are quite a lot of cars that didn't have these because the owners thought they were ugly. I'm not a huge fan of them but I have them as I think they "complete" the look IMO and brings down the rear bumper line to match the sideskirts. The one thing that bothers me is that the rear trims don't line up with the engraved line on the lower part of the bumper. This makes it look like it was installed crooked but that's the way it's suppose to look. Argh...

POST 9Original post

I believe they're called rear spats. MK1 Aero kit shown and described in this Rennlist thread here . 99650597700 (left) and 99650597800 (right) are the part numbers.

POST 10Original post

Yeap, came on ours too. I used to think cars missing them looked funny, but now I've seen so many without them that I could go either way. Gotta have the Taco though

POST 11Original post

^ Your website calls 'em "skirts". But maybe that's just for the Boxster ones. And, if you're correct with the "spats" terminology, dporto is just going to be impossible to live with from now on. Same for Alansglide.

Personally, I've always called them spats, but I've seen people call them trim pieces or rear skirt trim/pieces. In the thread I linked to individuals call them out as spats as well.

They are officially called "Rear GT Trim" per Porsche. I've also called these parts "Spats" before but that was when I had a Subaru and when I was conversing with the English folks more often . I think that term came from England if I'm not mistaken. BTW PelicanParts, you shouldn't have provided that link as peeps are already confused between the Turbo and C4S as someone covered up the red reflector on their C4S. Your link posted has a NB with a Turbo rear wing. I don't think you should be confusing people further. lol.

Touche! I blame IPv4 CIDRs and regexs* eating all my brain power and thus allowing me to leave such an opening. * If you don't know I don't suggest you look those terms up...

POST 16Original post

Quotes source post: 12668959

Makes sense about the terminology between different brands of vehicles. Could be it. On PET it calls it out as "aero kit" and then "cover rear."

POST 17Original post

The most interesting name I've heard them called is "winglets".

POST 18Original post

Quotes source post: 12668979

Yeah to make it more confusing, the Porsche Tequipment Katalog refers it as "GT Side Trims" while Porsche's Option code of "XAD" refers it as "Rear GT Fins". However the "Rear GT Trim" seems to be the most popular term when referring to this part.

I like it. Sort of like the couple of little tasty wings you get in your dozen buffalo wings.

C'mon we already have a "Taco" reference here...

Ok, no more Spatula . That's " Mr Spats " to you

You got 1/3 of the words correct. I suppose that's good enough to be an IMSB designer for Porsche...

POST 28Original post

Reminds me of a similar styling feature on the 944 turbo. That was my very first thought when I saw Aerokit car first time.

POST 29Original post

Quotes source post: 12671830

Exactly my initial thoughts too. What I find funny is peeps trying to put these on their 997's trying to be a 996. LOL Now that really looks out of place on a 997. Also 997 peeps trying to install 996 Aero rear spoiler on the 997's...

POST 31Original post

Quotes source post: 12672137

That might convince me that the 997 is something worth looking at...

POST 32Original post

Quotes source post: 12669013

guilty 😉.......but I was more specific by calling em REAR bumper winglets

POST 33Original post

Why ruin a perfectly good taco?

POST 34Original post

They only made them for the 1999-2001 cars - I looked into them for my 2002 911 and they would not fit.

POST 35Original post

Supposedly they do have an aero effect and were designed in a wind tunnel.

POST 36Original post

I'm sure that after 5 years ago, they figured something out. Thread from the dead....
