Read evidence and context
Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

I’ll keep that advice in mind next time I need to change the radio station, adjust my wipers, move the mirror, and I’ll sure as heck pull over the next time I need to sneeze!
Leading evidence: 'Use sole purpose of issuing a citation' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, the most frequently mentioned possible cause is 'good idea' (1 discussions; 0 report identifying it and 1 suggest it). The most frequently discussed action is 'Replace radio station' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

Suspected cause
It's probably a good idea to start with the " "Things you didn't know about your 996" thread.

4) If you REALLY like the spoiler extended, use the switch to deploy it and then pull the fuse.
These are separate views of the same evidence. Frequency alone does not establish a fix, and these counts must not be added together.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hi please can someone help a newbie ?
I'm going on Monday to get my first 996 a c4s.
The sales man says the the rear spoiler come up at speed as it
should but I asked if you can manually rise the spoiler, he said that there is a switch in the foot well that was introduced on th 2005 model but it's not on a 2003 .
Now is this correct I thought it was standard on all the c4s from day one.
And help much appreciated.
It's there, he hasn't got a clue.
Most sales people would only have detailed information on the goods that will give them the most commission. A 996 is to far down the line for him to learn about unless he's a 911 geek like the most of us here.
I can't imagine why it wouldn't be safe to operate while driving provided you're paying attention to the road in front of you and not distracted by trying to find the button or something. FWIW, I've got it in my '04 as well. As others have pointed out it was standard in all of the 996es. The sales guy doesn't know what he's talking about.

P.S. Edit: What Dennis said...lol
Welcome GPA 27, please post up when you get your car. It's probably a good idea to start with the " "Things you didn't know about your 996" thread. A lot of great info about your car.
Now about that rear spoiler. It's best to raise it ( hit the button ) when you're in traffic beside a school bus full of kids. I think you will enjoy the experience, lol
Good luck with your car and we're waiting for details.
1) It's a rocker switch, not a toggle.
2) No cop ever cared whether or not the spoiler was up on my 986. The assumption that all law enforcement officers know the speeds at which every spoiler on every car deploys is a flawed one.
3) Unless your arms are four feet long, operating the switch while driving is a bad idea. However, you can extend the spoiler at a stop, and unless you EXCEED the deployment speed and then slow down, it will stay up.
4) If you REALLY like the spoiler extended, use the switch to deploy it and then pull the fuse. Up it will stay. I used to do this with my Boxster @ autocross.
Then you won't be able to open your trunk or your hood. I think your fan won't work either. There are some ways to make it stay up but I don't know for sure. I heard jumping 2 wires in the spoiler harness. I'd like to know as I don't like the looks of a plain 911 rear end.
Lol you guys are too funny. I’ll keep that advice in mind next time I need to change the radio station, adjust my wipers, move the mirror, and I’ll sure as heck pull over the next time I need to sneeze!
I meant safe from a technical perspective, like would it be bad on the spoiler. Sounds like that is a no. Thanks!!!
I see In a reflection in the sun that there is a dash light that shows the spoiler, is it supposed to light up when the spoiler is up or down? I can never see if it's all the way up or all the way down unless I get out of the car. Especially if I lower it manually I never know how long to hold the button? Does the light let you know like the convertible roof light?
That's incorrect. While it may not be used for the sole purpose of issuing a citation, it can be used in conjunction with other indicators of speed. And police do know quite a bit about performance cars.
Well, considering you can have it up when you are not moving via the footwell switch, it doesn't say anything about your speed. The light should come on when the car is started and remain on until you drive for a few seconds. Not sure why it does that, but it must be doing do some sort of diagnostic.
I used to have it up all the time with my previous 996. I had mastered pushing the button with my toe. I would do it every time after getting off the freeway as it would definetly be down as soon as you exit.
If you feel like doing a mod there is a way to install a switch in the horseshoe or center console to install the turbo's spoiler switch. This will allow you to raise and lower without risking your life while grabbing your own ankles.
