Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Leading evidence: 'Clean exhaust ports' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Clean exhaust ports' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

Could be they are cleaning the SAI channels in the heads.

Only thing I can think of is the Mechanic running $5 bottle of Techron and charging a couple hundred for that service.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hello
this is my first post sorry, if not in the correct section.
I have a 996 2002, and have some work to be done on the car
Test and replace air pump, diverter valve and relay.
Clean exhaust ports, replace engine oil separator,
Crankshaft case vent valve and pipes
The mechanic tell me he has to drop the engine to do all these repairs
I just wanted to get an idea on the price it should cost...as i have sincerely no clue...
So thanks in advance for your responses.
(i've searched the site and have not found anything).
Yeah I wondered about that too so maybe op should seek further clarification on that. Only thing I can think of is the Mechanic running $5 bottle of Techron and charging a couple hundred for that service.
There are no SAI ports on the heads on an M96, they are in the exhaust manifolds. I’ve never seen a clogged one. Having run a repair facility, I’m assuming the service writer put a standard heading on the work order/estimate. To the original poster, just as an FYI; chances are it’s the switchover valve, relay, pump or vacuum leak. These typically won’t necessitate engine removal. On a 2002, the separator can also be done from underneath without removing anything, but I wouldn’t recommend that to a home mechanic. Good luck!
Are you sure? Do you have a pic? Last time I changed out my headers(aka exhaust manifold), I don't recall anything hooked up to the SAI.
I thought the SAI was suppose to feed additional air into the intake tract.
Yeah, I guess I shouldn’t have flatly stated “they’re not in the heads”. It’s not really in the manifold either, it’s pushed right at the manifold to head interface. It’s not a design that’s particularly susceptible to clogging.
Indeed the design is such that fresh air is pushed into the exhaust at the manifold(s). The idea is the higher oxygen content of fresh air helps increase the catalyst temperatures, doesn’t really have an impact on performance unlike EGR systems of older cars. Those had some exhaust routed back into the intake.
Well 5 is what you’re talking about but 3 and 1 are more common failure points from my experience (and much easier to get to). I’ve also seen the canister fail but you can bypass that or put in a different one instead of removing the engine
