Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Reported cause
Turned out to be tire noise due to slight alignment issue -- arising from bumping a curb pulling into a hotel parking lot.
Leading evidence: 'tire noise due' (1 discussions report identifying this cause; no attributable repair resolution). Across 1 matching discussions, the most frequently mentioned possible cause is 'tire noise due' (1 discussions; 1 report identifying it and 0 suggest it). The most frequently discussed action is 'Recommend shop' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

Had the seals in my Turbo's front diff replaced recently.

I replaced the seals on mine twice and finally just removed the fwd.

While you are there ask a senior tech if he can recommend a shop to you that could rebuild your car's diff.

If you buy the diff then you might want to consider before installing it to as a preventative measure replace the flange seals and whatever other seals that can be replaced without disassembly of the unit.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

You sure it is done? My Turbo was making a noise at highway speeds that had me thinking wheel bearing (at least) to front diff. Turned out to be tire noise due to slight alignment issue -- arising from bumping a curb pulling into a hotel parking lot.
If it is done not sure who does these. Techs don't. I asked about front diff issues and was told they just get replaced. I asked when? When they get noisy is what I was told. The techs went on to say that if the diff makes it through puberty -- and most do -- then they seldom go wrong afterwards.
For a new diff cost I'd start with the dealer. Sure, it is going to be high but at least you know. While you are there ask a senior tech if he can recommend a shop to you that could rebuild your car's diff.
There is possibly the possibility of fitting a replacement unit sourced from a salvage yard. I suspect not too many of these front diffs pop up. But OTOH I suspect not too many go out once out of warranty.
Last but not least, and I'm going to hate myself after saying this, you could consider, might want to think about, look into at least, the option of converting the car from AWD to RWD.
Well, I was right. I hate myself, but what is said is said.
Riad what's the actual problem? leak? I replaced the seals on mine twice and finally just removed the fwd. Captain Obvious did a write up on removal last year. You wont miss the fwd and you'll drop 70lbs in process.
I had to have the front differential rebuilt on my C4S. The initial symptoms were gear whine, followed by leaking and then loud noises.
Porsche dealership techs will generally tell you that the part can't be rebuilt and that it must be replaced. A new front diff is over $7,000 for the part alone. You can buy one from a Porsche scrap yard/reseller for about half of that or less, and often they are sold with a limited warranty. The rebuild on mine was about $3,500 by my local independent mechanic.
Yea, it's at the indy mechanic he confirmed it's the front diff... and I will rip out the front diff right now and make it a rwd car... I'm never selling it.
But I did find a few used one's for $500 so I'll go that route.
I'm waiting to hear back from the mechanic on how bad it is... may be able to rebuild it...

That's Dennis - that's exactly the symptoms I had.
I'm thinking this route if I can't rebuild it...

No way in hell I'm buying a new one... that's not happening.
Had the seals in my Turbo's front diff replaced recently. Just one side leaking but I had the tech replace both sides. Axle flange seals I think they are called. Several hours labor and I don't recall how much the seals cost.
I hope the things stay oil tight.
It may not have been clear -- this board's message format is sometimes a bit confusing -- but my reply was to a post by Hardback.
Of course, if you are going to have to front diff removed and the car converted to RWD then of course there is no reason to do anything to the bad diff other than to find a nice place to dispose of it.
Price is an opinion, not a fact. The $1200 is just the seller's opinion as to what he thinks the thing is worth.
If you are interested of course you will have to arrive at your own opinion.
I would be inclined to be very reluctant to pay much for a front diff with just 2K miles on it. There is the concern that with so few miles it could suffer a new part failure and turn into $1200 paperweight in no time.
Furthermore, with just 2K miles on it, based on my experience with my Turbo and its front diff I'd also be concerned that even if the diff held up the seals would leak.
If you buy the diff then you might want to consider before installing it to as a preventative measure replace the flange seals and whatever other seals that can be replaced without disassembly of the unit.
Yup, that's an excellent point and I have already instructed my mechanic to do exactly that.
And the guy originally wanted $1700 for the diff... so I talked him down.
Thanks for everyone's input, it's much appreciated.
