On my 2000 cab, I run a set of Cayman II 17� wheels with winter tires as follows: 205-55-17 front (7� width, and 55 mm offset) and 235-50-17 rear (8.5� width, and 40 mm offset).

I agree in theory but when I look at the sizes recommended by Porsche for 17s there aren't any tires available except Vredestein which seem hard to find in the US.

As anyone run alternate tire sizes for winter wheels? I see a set of 18s with winter tires for a newer Cayman online at a reasonable price. My car is an 02 C2. Size is: Front: 8 x 18" 57 mm - 235/40 R18 91V Rear: 9 x 18" 43 mm - 255/40 R18 95V

On my 2000 cab, I run a set of Cayman II 17� wheels with winter tires as follows: 205-55-17 front (7� width, and 55 mm offset) and 235-50-17 rear (8.5� width, and 40 mm offset). They are noticeably taller than the standard sets, but worked great last cold season in New England. The wheels are quite similar in size to the 17" standard wheels for a 996 (circa 1999-2000, or so, at least). If the offsets and related lateral dimensions work on the wheels you are considering, they might be just fine. Bolts are all the same.

Only vredestein in 17's. No one has them in stock now. Vulcan tire has the best prices but not avail to mid oct. I used tire easy and the rears are going to be on the next shipment. The offsets are wrong for a 996 and not recommended by Porsche
