Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

I ordered new OE replacement pads to do a brake job, and then used a mirror to check the Existing pads, which had a lot of surface area left on them.
Leading evidence: 'Use mirror' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Check existing pads' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

Still it doesn't hurt to check the level to make sure it is correct.

Suggestion
I think I'll wait until I replace the pads again and then replace the wear sensors at that time.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

My 1999 Carrera has been exhibiting odd behavior for the last 2 weeks. Randomly the Brake Wear light comes on while driving. It will go out sometimes, it may not come on at all on the same commute.
I ordered new OE replacement pads to do a brake job, and then used a mirror to check the Existing pads, which had a lot of surface area left on them.
My understanding of the indicator is it sensed a physical brake in the tip of the sensor opening the loop... So how could mine be intermittent?
Thanks for your help!
Cheers,
One of the pads is sending the signal, even if visually looking good.
Mine did this and it needed brakes done. Change out the pads.
What is the mileage on current brakes?
The intermittent behavior could be a cable/wiring problem as JayG mentioned.
My experience is the light is intermittent at first. As the brake wear progresses -- as one continues to drive the car -- the light comes on more often. At some point though the light is on from the time the engine is started.
The worn pad can be just one pad. Also, pad wear for each pad may not be even. The pad can wear faster on the leading edge or the trailing edge or at the top or at the bottom.
You are probably faced with removing the brake hardware a wheel at a time until you determine the cause, whether it is from a worn pad or something else.
I've had this issue too. My brakes, rotors, and fluid are all new. The light comes on every once in a while - not very often. I think I'll wait until I replace the pads again and then replace the wear sensors at that time.
The brake wear light and the brake fluid level warning lights are two different warning lights.
The OP specificially mentioned brake wear.
Still it doesn't hurt to check the level to make sure it is correct.
And a flush/bleed is called for if the fluid is getting on in years (2 years).
Had similar issue, when I did my brakes a couple months ago, I simply pulled the sensors and zip tied them out of the way. Really more trouble than they are worth IMHO.
