Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

5 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Recent Rennlist activity about the Targa, its greenhouse heating effect, and the replacement of the sunscreen ( https://rennlist.com/forums/996-foru...e-install.html ) has re-awakened my thoughts about replacing the retractable screen with a solid, and even reflective, shade instead of the screen, which does not do much to stop the heat, even with tinted glass. (See attached pic demonstrating minimal effect.) Has anyone tried this? Any thoughts about the practicality of doing this? Any suggestions about how this could be done? Thanks.

POST 2Original post

If you could get 3M crystaline to adhere to the glass, it would make a huge difference.

Yes, I already had some "highest quality, best heat/ray blocker" applied to the sunroof glass to the tune of about $500. Also had tint applied to hatch window (but slightly less blocking so visibility not overly blocked). Still greenhouse -- and this was in VA, which ain't FL.

POST 4Original post

Suncoast apparently has an 'upgraded' shade that is a little thicker than the original. I have no idea how much difference it makes though. http://suncoastparts.com/product/99756240500.html The sunshade mechanism is a lot like a roller blind. I don't think it would be that difficult to replace the current material with something different. Interesting idea. I only use mine when the car is parked to keep the sun off the interior and my preference would have been for a completely opaque or reflective blind.

Kevin, Thanks for the link! Yah, you know about that greenhouse heat with the Targa. HOWEVER, I love the openness effect of the "panorama" roof, as well as the hatchback access and roominess. The old Targa top of the air-cooled Ps (of which we had one) was a pain -- leaks, air noise.

This is a source reference. Confirm exact model applicability in the original material.
