Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I know that this is a beat to death subject but as I was getting ready to fill out the paperwork to get the new to me C4S insured with Leland-West and American Modern Home I decided to look at a couple of other quotes. What found was interesting to me at least. USAA was the most costly, Leland-West was the second most expensive this time around. Grundy came in second and the least expensive was Classic Auto Insurance. They are close to $300 less than LW/AMH and $500 less than USAA. ANybody use these guys? If so, how are they with claims. I have been with Leland-West since I got my first Porsche in 2000 and never had a problem. Had a glass claim on my 964 and that was smooth sailing as far as the claim process.

POST 2Original post

$310 for the yr, full coverage $250 deductible, 99 cab, AAA

POST 3Original post

Depends a lot on your postcode (Zip) and age over here!

POST 4Original post

Wife has insurance..I just drive it. Too many factors to compare: driving record/age/sex/location/previous claims/deductibles/state mandates/medical...etc. State Farm full coverage/comprehensive/$500 deductible/multi-car discount/free windshield $720/year, 99 Cab

POST 5 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Our house and DDs are with Allstate. But they are crap for rates on "exotic" or "performance" type cars. It was interesting since this was the first time Leland-West was not competitive enough to just stay with them.

POST 6Original post

USAA may not win every rate comparison, but they are the best company. Hands down. Their level of sevice is second to none. Remember too, most years you will get a refund of some percentage. Mine was over $200 this year, though admittedly I have four cars and two houses with them. A friend recently switched his homes and cars over to USAA from Allstate and his total savings were over $2K a year. He was stunned.

We get a rebate every year from USAA on 3 cars and the house. First $250 DEDUCTABLE. My wife swears by them. We get to choose which ever repair shop we want. We got $120 back this time as we haven't made a claim in 2 years. The last being on the Porsche when I slipped off the road in ice and touched a side barrier. I chose Porsche at Lancaster PA. They made a perfect job. $642 just for the Porsche 99 cab C2 a year. No hastle in claim or pay out. My wife agrees with you whole heartedly and swears by USAA. We have been with USAA since 1991. Had 3 house claims. One when the house was hit by a real severe hail storm. The whole outside siding including the roof had to be replaced. 3 car claims throughout the years with them and no hastle with USAA solving our problems. Go for the best and you get what you pay for.

POST 8Original post

Another thumbs up for USAA. Member owned and exceptional customer service. I have been a member since 1987. They are also my primary bank.

POST 9Original post

AAA is great. They also give "dividends" back to customers every year. Great rates and service. As a bonus, if you have a kid ready to get a license, they do not charge for covering the teenager from 15 1/2 to 16 1/2

POST 10 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks for all the responses. I will revisit USAA and look at AAA. On another note, Classic Auto Insurance looks like it is underwritten by American Modern Home Insurance. Which is interesting since they are the same company that Leland-West uses. I need to determine is L-Ws Select extras are worth the extra expense. But which ever, you have to have insurance.

POST 11Original post

I had AAA for many years and was very pleased, however I don't recall ever receiving dividends. I was pleased until my 16 yr. old son was put on the policy and it doubled. No claims, no moving violations, not even a parking ticket in over a decade with 6 drivers over the years. Just switched to Geico last fall. As others have stated, it is going to depend on your own circumstances (history, FICO score, area where you live etc.) as to what is your best choice. I think there are a number of good choices and AAA and USAA (if you qualify) are right up there.

POST 12 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Just got off the phone with USAA. For the Porsche alone they were $1210/yr. Close to three times the cost of Classic Auto Insurance (American Modern Home). If I moved DDs and home to USAA the Porsche would drop to $1010 a year. Still quite high IMHO. AAA is supposed to call after filling out online quote. We have clean driving records, own home, FICOs 810+.

POST 13Original post

This thread motivated me to shop auto insurance for my cars so I started with AAA. I was surprised to be told today that they would not cover a Porsche for collision damage! So - I'm confused as to how you guys seem to be high on them as a provider when I can't even get coverage. This is AAA Carolina of course, so maybe it is just them but seems odd AAA would cover these cars in some parts of the country and not in others.

POST 14 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

AAA was really high since it was covering the Porsche alone. rep kept pusing me to move homeowners and DD's coverage over as well.

POST 15Original post

I have Liberty Mutual and pay $1200+ / year for 996 c4, but I currently have ticket which expires in Aug 2016. Dam you Lexus Nexus. Currently pay $2700/year for porsche, minivan w/full coverage > $500 deductible and basics for honda. Think Geico has more competitive rates in SE. FYI - Have Carport, no garage in current home and that affects which insurance comp. I can use and does drive price up for others.

POST 16Original post

Be careful with these "classic" car insurance policies. I couldn't find one that covered me for ordinary non-commuting use of my car for transportation. That's right, you have to agree to drive your car only on a pleasure cruise (no stopping off at the hardware store, etc.), on your way to a PCA event, in a parade or on your way to a car show.

POST 17Original post

We have both our 56 Sunliner and 996 on collector policies. Neither Hagerty nor State Farm have those restrictions. State Farm wants to know max mileage (I think we have it at 7500 each or something). We have state farm, have been shopping hagerty. Neither was a whole lot of money.

POST 18Original post

Quotes source post: 12909566

I was with State Farm and switched to Geico. Saved about $100 per month. Nothing against or for anyone, other than different companies choose to treat zip codes differently.

POST 19Original post

I worked in insurance briefly for Geico, which is a great company, but not always the cheapest, but great for customer service if something goes wrong. The three things that affect the cost of your insurance the most are: 1. Credit report (yes, credit report, it is statistically the most predictive data point) 2. Zip code (zip code is huge) 3. Driving record

POST 20Original post

Quotes source post: 12909566

I have my Lotus Esprit with Hagerty. They do have those restrictions on my policy. Must be kept in a garage, can not be driven daily ,limit to miles driven per year , and lastly , can only be driven to shows, and event runs , etc. They do have agreed value which is one very large bonus in my book The Pcar and my daily driver are with Mercury . Their policy has been priced right and the one claim I placed 5 years ago was handled with no problems .

POST 21Original post

I have now spoken to Hagerty and their quote was just a little cheaper than I am paying State Farm. They are really specific about this 3500 mile thing too - any suggestion you might drive more than this per year seemed to raise an eyebrow and - I'm sure - the premiium.

POST 22Original post

That's sickening. Up here in, the province is the only insurer. I pay $1900 for the year. And that's with a perfect driving record, no accidents and no claims. Eff.

POST 23Original post

check out Amica. No agents. I've had them for almost 35 years, and every time I shop nobody beats them. My BIL in NJ just switched all of his coverage to them and was astounded at the savings. Fantastic claims service, for both Auto and Home. They are picky for new customers, and have turned away a couple of people that I know of. Fine with me! Keeps the premiums down. I do have Hagerty on an old truck of mine, because it was dirt cheap, had declared value, and I almost never drive it.
