Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Having just gotten a 2000 996 cab tiptronic, I was wondering about people's experiences driving the car as a daily driver. I am most concerned about wet traction. No PSM on mine and my 97 M3 is loose in the rain even with SO-3's.
Thanks
Eugene
I'm in the rainy NW and I've been extremely impressed with the wet weather handling of my 996 cab. I do have PSM, but I've never been aware of it working. (Well, OK, there was the incident with ~85mph through a ~40mph bend ... but it saved me)
I have the Conti's too, these seem to be fine in the rain as I've had no issue at all in the 10000 miles that I have on mine now. With 18's I've also found that the car is very resistant to tramlining on ruts in the road - the biggest problem we have with wet weather here. I've not noticed any significant instances of aqua-planing or traction loss.
Like all convertibles, the roof seal around the door is useless. You will get rained on when you open the door, despite the plastic rail. With the hardtop on, I don't get this.
The other thing that you must do is to replace the original windshield wipers if you have them. I got new Porsche wipers recently and was told by the service tech that the originals had a problem with chatter - mine did. The new wipers are perfect. This was a GREAT $25 investment.

The 996 is a great daily driver. I had a '99 996 cab with traction control but not PSM and Michelins which were fine in the rain. My wife drives the car to work every day except when its really snowy or icy. We had 55k mi. on the car when we traded it in for an '02 cab in Oct. We never once had a mechanical problem with the car on the road.
Thanks guys for the replies. I was getting a little worried b/c I traded in a 99 528 for this 996 cab for my wife. The 528 is in my mind one of the best all-around cars you can buy, especially from a safety standpoint, and was great in wet weather. I feel better about this now.
Probably am going to do the hardtop asap.

It turns out that my tyres are Dunlop SP9090's and not Continental after all... (Should have checked) So, the wet weather performance I mentioned applies to the Dunlops!!
It looks like I've managed to squeeze 10k out of the rears. Time for replacement.
