Yes your factory electric dash gauge is most likely flaky, I've seen quite a few that would stick at 4.5 bar and not go above even though the actual tested pressure was much higher...

When in doubt always test with a trusted manual gauge to confirm the actual pressure to compare to the factory electric gauge and if they don't correspond then repair as necessary..

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I've been working over my C2 for about 3 months - I've modded it some, restored some, cleaned a lot and replaced even more broken and missing pieces. But, it's finally time to get it off the quick jacks and back on the road. So, I would appreciate a sanity check on a couple of things... First - Oil Pressure. The digital oil gauge shows full, the dipstick is right on the money, but the oil pressure gauge is pegged at 5. The only changes to that system was the LN Engineering spin on filter with a Mahle filter and fresh Driven DT40. I did fire up the car, but didn't keep it on for long, so it never really warmed up - I've just never seen pressure that high before. Is that normal enough or cause for concern? Second - I got the Fister sport mod and its significantly louder than I thought it would be. I did fire up the car with no mufflers just for giggles and this it sounds darn close to being fully open - but with a really sweet bark to the note. It's not leaking anywhere, so for those of you who have done that mod, is that normal. I was kinda hoping to give the neighborhood a break this time, but I guess it sucks to be them once more. Thanks in advance...

POST 2Original post

(1) yes very normal to peg at 5 bar on cold start.....once warmed it should be about 1 bar per 1K rpm and follow the Tach... (2) Everyone loves the sound of the Fister mod so get it out of the garage and it may not be as loud....the garage may be amplifying the sound... Yes you were very much in need of a sanity check !!

POST 3Original post

@Porschetech3 what if Im pegged at 4.5 at cold start? fresh DT40 as well. Maybe something wrong with my gauge?

POST 4Original post

Quotes source post: 19716086

Im sure he will answer but your main concern should be when its warm, not falling below 1 bar at idle and 1 bar per 1000 rpm.

POST 5Original post

Quotes source post: 19716086

Theres a possibility it may be your oil pressure sender. I purchased a brand new oil pressure sender from Porsche and it pegged my oil pressure at 4.0 at cold start. I bought another one, installed it, and my pressure reads 5.0 bar at cold start. It was frustrating to find out a brand new OEM part could malfunction.

POST 7 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks for the sanity check. I just got the car in January, so haven't got a good baseline yet on what's normal for the brand. Dealing with the rust, missing or broken bits, research, and waiting for replacement parts to arrive - it's not been easy to get to this point and and I've questioned the meaning of life myself on more than one occasion...

POST 8Original post

Yes your factory electric dash gauge is most likely flaky, I've seen quite a few that would stick at 4.5 bar and not go above even though the actual tested pressure was much higher... When in doubt always test with a trusted manual gauge to confirm the actual pressure to compare to the factory electric gauge and if they don't correspond then repair as necessary.. About 80% of the time the sending unit will be the flaky part and about 20% of the time it will be the dash read-out unit....

POST 9Original post

Sounds like my gauge then, it seems to max at 4.5 and then pretty much 1 bar above the rpm. Ill get some help with a manual gauge to confirm. Thanks for letting hijack to thread for a sanity check for me too.

POST 10Original post

I would like to point out that you may not want to have the oil at the top of the mark, you may find it causes excess smoking upon start up, and screw up the A.O.S.
