Was it only North American cars that came with a sunroof as standard and thus you had to use the "sunroof delete" option to remove it?"

Coverage and how to read this overview
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.
10 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

Hey everyone, first post here but if I go through with this purchase, the first of many hopefully!
I am located in Washington state and am looking at a Japanese imported 1998 996. Im particularly drawn to this as it is a very early example of this generation, and has what appears to be a factory slick top (this is very important to me).
However, being from Japan its difficult for me to figure out any of the cars history, it has an aerokit on it that I presume is NOT factory as its not listed on the build sheet. I read a few threads here that would indicate that some options installed arent on the build sheet, yet I find it difficult to believe Porsche would do something like this.
Now I have heard that all 996s were equipped standard with the sunroof, and to delete it, you had to tick the "sunroof delete" option... Initially I was led to believe that this was option code 652, yet every build sheet code list for the 996 I could find does not have an option numbered 652 that I have seen, the closest I have seen is 650 which funnily enough says "sunroof."
Whats the deal? Did the Japanese cars have a different subset of option codes? Was it only North American cars that came with a sunroof as standard and thus you had to use the "sunroof delete" option to remove it?"
This is important for me to determine as a slick top is very desirable to me, however if its not from the factory then I am not nearly as interested.
Thanks for the help, here are the build options listed:
(also I have not been able to ascertain what "C08" is as I have not seen that on the build options lists I have referenced)
C08 is country code for Japan with LHD (C18 Japan, RHD).

652 is sunroof delete but is not a code that's listed on the sticker. You would only see it on the full info sheet for the car when requested at a porsche dealer.
For a nominal fee you can pull the factory build info from here:

Some of the data will be in German but you can use Google translate once you have the PDF. It will show all the standard equipment not listed on the options sticker as well as order date, build date, etc. Based on the VIN, it would be a late Dec/97 or early Jan/98 build date. It is a low-optioned car with a rear wiper and Hi-Fi sound system. Factory slick tops were plentiful in the rest of the world, it was mainly NA where the dealers all wanted to increase their profits and spec ordered cars with the sunroof option.
Look how it's printed and how it's applied to the hood. IMHO, the factory had a bad printing day. The option number may be missing because the printer was offset and the person in the factory didn't care to correct.
Run the VIN in VINanalytics.

I've just done the VINanalytics on mine and it lists the sunroof delete option and a few others not shown on sticker. Well worth it
Under additional equipment there is a whole page of options that aren't shown on sticker.
Curious to know what the report listed as your build date?
Most items listed under the additional equipment list would be considered standard equipment for that particular model year.
Thanks for that, I have been trying to put a rough figure on 996 production numbers in 1997 and given your VIN it looks like up to 2500+/- were built. If the OP reports back with his production date then I can probably narrow it down further.
