Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. I've replaced the glove box, frunk and rear deck with LEDs and the only trick is that you have to get the polarity right.
Leading evidence: 'Replace glove box, frunk and rear deck' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, the most frequently mentioned possible cause is 'hour or' (1 discussions; 0 report identifying it and 1 suggest it). The most frequently discussed action is 'Replace bulbs' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

I had no issues when I replaced the rear bulbs with LED bulbs.

The turn signals worked well without replacing the flasher.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hi, all. I want to replace all of the bulbs on my 996 with LEDs. From the little bit of digging that I've done I've become confused about light colors, LED bulb types and brands as well as the relay (I noticed in some posts that people had to grind off a blade on a relay). I have so many home projects going on right now this just isn't a project that I want to spend a lot of time making a lot of mistakes. Could anyone make any suggestions on bulb types/brands and especially any specific plug-n-play relays for LED bulbs on the 996? Thanks!
I've replaced the glove box, frunk and rear deck with LEDs and the only trick is that you have to get the polarity right. The incandescent lights didn't car which side was ground, but the LED ones care. This wouldn't apply to the tail lights or turn signals since the base is always ground. For the simple ones that I mentioned, pull out the old light and take it to the auto parts store. Match the length (and get white light) and you are good to go.
I had no issues when I replaced the rear bulbs with LED bulbs. I have not yet done the fronts. You need an electronic relay which can be purchased at Advanced auto, O'Reilly's et al. A good source for LEDs for almost any car or truck is

. You will find a handy guide to your specific model and each bulb. They offer various colors of LEDs so that you can have the crazy bright white or the color similar to an incandescent bulb. I found that the white LEDs just did not look right.
The turn signals worked well without replacing the flasher. No hyperflashing. No need to attach any resistors. But since I plan to eventually change the front turn signals, I also replaced the flasher.
It is not a very difficult job. Probably an hour or so of replacing bulbs.
Pretty timely post as I started the process of replacing and upgrading all my bulbs with LED ones. I started with the turn signals and did the rears so far. The LED bulbs I used have all the circuitry built in so no special relays were needed so far and it was really just plug and play. As I work on getting all this done, I'll list all the bulbs and sizes I used in my ownership thread. For now, here is a preview of the light output. Much more noticeable in very bright conditions where my friend once mentioned that the light was faint at best.
Absolutely zero! Been parking all my cars like this for last 10 years and love watching people gasp as I pull in. It's extra fun because of a bit of an incline. I usually leave a generous 1in. gap between the wall and mirror but the way I look at it is that the mirror is the widest part of the car so as long as that doesn't touch anything the rest will be a ok
I'm not sure where you're based but if in the UK,

sell bulbs that are a direct plug and play replacement. I've done all the indicator (or turn signal) bulbs plus brake, rear light and reverse light bulbs. The only ones I've not touched are high, dip and side bulbs. All the bulbs are a standard size and fitment so there's plenty of choice out there.
When opening the rears, be careful with the bulb holders, I broke 2 of mine and had to get replacements. Brand new they're not cheap as they come with the harness as well! If you've a 4S or a Turbo, now is the time to install some light savers too. My lights were both cracked and ready to fall out. Not an issue for C2/4 models
