Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Once the dme is repaired (ECU Doctor),, to isolate which (or both ?) actuator(s) is causing the problem, and to protect the dme from future burnt varioactuator transistor, try this suggestion made by PT3.

Leading evidence: 'Repair (ecu doctor)' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Repair (ecu doctor)' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

I meant to say that I had the shop replace the Vatican actuator solenoid, and that part was what had burn damage to the wiring end

Coverage and how to read this overview
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I purchased a 1999 C2 several years ago and after driving it home from the PO, I got a CEL light. After buying a durametric and connecting it to the car, it showed a P1539 camshaft adjustment bank 2 fault. I looked under the car at the wiring connector to the actuator and it appeared it had been chewed by a rodent. The actuator looked melted at the wiring end also. I then had a shop replace the actuator and new wire to it. The CEL always returned after clearing it with the durametric.
So recently, I removed the ECU and found that one area had been burned pretty badly. I am posting some pictures of both sides of the board, before and after I cleaned it with den alcohol. Can anyone comment on what may need to be done to repair this, and who might be the best place to repair it? Thanks very much.
IIRR, this burnt transistor is what controls the variocam. When the solenoid partially shorts, or actuator starts to stick/bind/fail, it causes high amperage in the circuit that feeds both solenoids. This burns up the dme.
Once the dme is repaired (ECU Doctor),, to isolate which (or both ?) actuator(s) is causing the problem, and to protect the dme from future burnt varioactuator transistor, try this suggestion made by PT3.
The variocam solinoid actuator is controlled by the dme. It uses
-
or ground to control it.
+
power is supplied by the harness to both actuators all the time and ground is switched by dme.
So separate the power + to each bank actuator and fuse each bank power wire with a inline 1 amp fuse. This will keep the dme intact and show you which fuse blows letting you know what actuator is failing.

Thank you very much allcool for this response.
This is very helpful information, and I am going to move forward with the repair and testing as you suggest!
