Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

I also find it strange how the first model used a 983 but the replacements use 980.
Leading evidence: 'Use 983' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Replace inner trim' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

Suggestion
Center radiator kit is a good idea, but you might also be able to replace the inner trim with that of a stock bumper.

The drag you probably won't notice, the front lift you probably will when changing lanes at speeds of 70mph and up.

needs to be cut out if using a center radiator (at least as shipped from Rose Passion).

I wanted to highlight some potentially confusing part numbers to this thread I found in my research using the Porsche katalog PDF for the 1999-2005 GT3, this thread and Porsche parts websites.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I need to return my aero back to stock so I need part # for the front and rear
I have searched and came up with way too many part# some were superseded and many come up with 996.2 codes
I would like plain Jane 996.1 AERO part# front and rear
thanks Mike
Yes, it's confusing.
I've found these 3 to all be 996.1 aerokit front bumpers.
996-505-983-01
996-505-980-02-G2X
996-505-980-03-G2X
Some have the 3rd radiator hole already cut out and some don't (but even that seems variable between the #s)
I bought mine from Rose Passion (they list it as a GT3 front bumper and it had 2 different #s on it!
996-505-980-03-G2X on a sticker
and 996-505-983-01 embossed on the back side
So I think these 3 are interchangeable.
Find the best price (-03-G2X seems to be available at US dealers for less than -02-G2X).
My local dealer has it listed as for a Boxster S with ground effects - but it's listed elsewhere (Rose Passion) as a GT3 front bumper.

Yep - 996.1 rear bumpers are all the same

The rear spats are additional pieces

Thanks the stock taillights and litronics are in
and I can envision the future as look at it today
as soon as I can find reasonable prices on front and rear bumper covers I’ll be complete woosaa
Mike
Tail lights look great! Someone needs to list their oem aero front bumper! Keep the patience it will come. At least there are a million rear clips for good costs since they are not specific to the aero cars. Also I prefer to run without the rear splats (much like the GT3 .1 offered in Europe) Will you be adding the splats to the rear bumper?
I just received the same part from Rose Passion, and it was a good experience overall. Shipping from France to New England was nearly as much the part though (1000 EUR for the part, and 840 EUR for shipping). I had priced it out a little cheaper from both Gaudin and Delaware Porsche, but when I tried to order from them was told it was on backorder with no estimate for availability.
interesting, Sunset has it for $1800 and i'm 15 miles away from those ********, but I'm guessing they have super long delays on shipping as well.
I'll call them.
Update: on backorder and no ETA.
Sounds like I can start calling other dealers to see if they have it on hand.
good to know. Im actually hunting for a boxster and wouldnt mind the original aero bumper which I found here, but its used and refurbed.

wondering if I should spring for the used original aero bumper or spend the extra grand for the new gt3 style from RP
This shouldn't be so confusing.

996 505 983 01
Is the stamped part number (shown above) on my factory XAA bumper
According to the Katalog
996 505 980 03
is listed as the correct bumper cover for the 99-01 GT3
996 505 983 02
is listed as the correct bumper cover for the 02-05 GT3. this has been superseded by
996 505 983 03
According to Porsche parts websites
996 505
980 02
is listed as the correct bumper for the XAA aerokit (
Without 4s, aero. With ground effects, without s.) and costs $5000. It also replaces
986
505 580 00 (which returns no results in online parts catalogs) and
996
505 980 00
996 505 980 03
is listed for the 00-02 Boxster ( with ground effects, with s) and costs $1900 which replaces 986 505 980 01 (also returns no results in online parts catalogs)
and perhaps the most confusing,
996 505 98
3
01
, the original stamped number does not exist in their online catalogs. I also find it strange how the first model used a 983 but the replacements use 980.
There was originally a unique Boxster aero bumper and eventually, which looks a lot like the catalog drawing above for 996 505 980 03. I guess they replaced it with the 996 one.
In summary, I think they are the same for 996.1 Carrera and 986.1 Boxster now but for some reason, one is $5000 and one is $1900.
Thanks for coming to my Ted Talk.
I think the main difference is all 986.1 S came with a center radiator so the 996 505 980 03 will have the opening for it and the 996 505 980 02 has the plug in the center section.
Found these pics.
Edit: Seems this may be incorrect. I think the only way to knw would be to order one of the $5000 ones and see how it's different.
I use this part number, 996-505-980-03 G2X when ordering from Marin Porsche and unfortunately received a bumper with a center opening that is cut out. Is it a fail to use it without having a third radiator installed, what does it do to the aero? Before I reach out to them, I wanted to get the forums take on options if I can't return it, possible 20% restocking fees etc...
Just close it for zero aero disadvantage.
The center opening with or without 3rd rad will increase aero drag as well as front lift (since it vents to the bottom). The drag you probably won't notice, the front lift you probably will when changing lanes at speeds of 70mph and up.
Thanks for the quick feedback. Blocking it off it is.....I'll be adding one of these bad boys as well to further decrease front end uplift ,
https://demonspeed.com/product/spoil...96-505-986-91/
, unless there something else I should be looking into
Rsr cut outs with a gt2 chimney to vent over the hood and canards
. Be aware if u have a mk1 the demonspeed part needs new holes drilled and has to be pulled a little to fit the early bumper correctly. Mine has one.
