Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Suggestion

Yes, with a PIWIS you could plug up the used DME and pull up the Vin number, and use the Vin to possibly get the programming code, but like you say, the Dealership will not be very willing to give out the programming code if you don't actually "own the car"..

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

8 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

0 evidence records excluded for query context · 0 excluded by outcome qualification · 0 adjusted by outcome qualification.

0 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

My car is throwing a fit after installing 02 spacers my tech says my CEL is from 02 sensors on both banks but believes it’s my ecu all 4 02 sensors are less then a year old and 3k miles so I’m looking for one before I send this one out to ecu doctors

POST 2Original post

Make sure the Tech didn't accidentally hook-up the bank 1 02 Sensor to the bank 2 wring harness ( and vise-versa) . I have seen some really good tech's make this simple mistake and then were dumbfounded and couldn't figure out why the car all of a sudden was throwing a fit...( because the sensors are new and working fine, but it confuses the ECU/DME).. One more little tip, if you get a used ECU/DME you will need the Vin # for the car it came in + the programming code for that car that the ECU/DME originally came in...Both Vin's and both programming codes will be needed to swap ECU/DME's...

POST 3Original post

I think Porschtech has a good idea, check those connections. However, if you put in O2 spacers and now you think you need a new ECU, I would suggest you are looking in the wrong place. Troubleshoot the issue. Highly unlikely the ECU went bad. O2 spaces are not something that always make your car perform better, normally it's the other way around, like you put something on the car that requires them to cheat the ECU. Best of luck.

POST 4 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

No the 02 spacers were to get rid of my CEL that came on long after I installed the fabspeed go fast goodies like 3 months after and the car ran beautifully untill the 02 spacers went on but I only installed 2 im throwing 2 more thinking they were sending a mixed message but I’m definitely not a tech I pay will keep you’ll posted

POST 5Original post

I bet the spacers are not the issue . I say that because my 99 C4 3.8 with catless x-pipe has been running great for over a year . I have spacers installed in the " post cat position " and have no CEL's and all ECU parameters show " ready " . My point is they can all play together . I think Ptech nailed the issue .

Can PIWIS pull info from the DME with which Porsche is then theoretically able to provide the necessary codes? I understand that practically it will be difficult to provide proof of legal ownership if one has bought it off a private party, which Porsche most likely will demand if they are to provide above codes...

Yes, with a PIWIS you could plug up the used DME and pull up the Vin number, and use the Vin to possibly get the programming code, but like you say, the Dealership will not be very willing to give out the programming code if you don't actually "own the car".. Hell they don't even like to give out the programming codes if you DO own the car....A well established Indy with a Legal PIWIS Subscription would be the best bet.. Programming codes and key codes ect. are very well guarded by Porsche..( and it takes a lot $$$ to have access)...
