Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Miles around 49k (Part of 60k service) Dont want new $800 cables as I installed a short shifter to remove the sloppy feel and I am happy with it.

Suggestion
If you just want to remove “slop” youn might try a set of metal bushings to replace the plastic ones in the stock shifter.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I bought 04 Targa about 2 months ago and so far have put 2k+ miles on it as my daily driver. I didnt get a PPI or checked out for scoring....I just went by the car fax records and history of service. My Targa has been so great and driving the 6sp has so good to get back into a manual.
As I am slowely getting records from the prevoius owner and seeing what services were done, I have noticed some things that are bothering me and wondering if there are other simple fixes for them as some services have been done.
1. Transmission when cold is clunky (yes I am aware fluids need to warm up) but when warmed up upshift to 3rd doesnt always engage smoothly. Recent transmission fluid flush and new Porsche oil done on 01/04/23.
Miles around 49k (Part of 60k service) Dont want new $800 cables as I installed a short shifter to remove the sloppy feel and I am happy with it.
2. I feel a slight engine hesitation sometimes in 2nd gear above 3k but below 3.5k were I feel I should be upshifting to 3rd...Its hard to explain it but its only sometimes
60k service performed around 49k miles oil change, plugs, belt, etc on 01/04/23
Oil changed, Mass air flow sensor replaced on 02/24/23 at 50k miles
Oil changed on 07/11/23 at 55k miles
Porsche Hennessy bought the car did a PPI on 07/27/23 and did a 60k service themselves (trying to get records) I see that brake fluid flushed and changed at 68k miles
I feel I have good service 996.2 and trying to sort the next services I will be doing on it, but what do you guys think of my 1 and 2?
Edit: Was able to get the records from Hennessey Porsche Crazy how when shops dont talk some services are done twice.....My Targa got 2 60k services within a 8k miles span....
Hennessey Porsche also added Wynn's ethanol treatment 67411? I wonder if its for the hesitation, I feel?
Hesitation is the variocam. Nothing to worry about. Kicks in for every 996.2 at the revs you mention. Not certain about the 996.1 story.
Drive it and enjoy it. Make sure to take the revs up to 6k every once in a while on 2nd and 3rd. Not only will the engine love it, you will as well.
Short shifters increase the force required to shift gears. If you just want to remove “slop” youn might try a set of metal bushings to replace the plastic ones in the stock shifter. Function First makes a nice kit. That may help with your shifting issues.
Its actually the same feeling and dont feel extra shfting force on my end, but I understand what you are saying. i drove another one that was stock as well and it just feels the same with the upshift to 3rd....Guess I will just live with it and deal with it...
