That's right 2001 C2 911, 90kmiles with upgraded IMS unit installed with new clutch by PO at 75k miles.
Leading evidence: 'Install with new clutch by po at 75k miles' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Check cam dev at hot idle is' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

the reason youre supposed to check cam dev at hot idle is for this reason, numbers come down a bit as the car comes to operating temp

Suggestion
Actually it more about oil temp/viscosity since the Variocam actuator operates hydraulically and why it's important to warm up the engine before checking camshaft deviations.

Suggestion
You need to check the value at idle with the engine at operating temperature.

After getting the duramatic up and running, looks like bank 1 starts at -2.3 when cold, then settles at 1.91 for a whole, then around 1.6 for a while then after stopping at idle for a while down to 1.31.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Gents,
I've had my cam tensioner replaced in bank 1 a while back which brought the deviations for both under negative 6. After getting the duramatic up and running, looks like bank 1 starts at -2.3 when cold, then settles at 1.91 for a whole, then around 1.6 for a while then after stopping at idle for a while down to 1.31. What should I be looking for when viewing these data points. The numbers do don't move when I was driving but did notice the general trend of blocked movement from -2.3 towards -1.3. Any knowledge here?
Happy new year.
Not to be an alarmist, but pretty sure cam deviation should be rock solid regardless of engine temp.
I read that previous owner had IMs bearing replaced? You should consider inspecting that bearing if your mechanic didnt do that when he replaced tensioner.
Hopefully others will weigh in on possible causes for wandering deviation.
Helps to know what MY and engine (5 chain vs 3 chain). What other work has been done? What caused you to replace the cam tensioner? Background on the engine work really helps. Everything else is a WAG.

I meant bank 1 started at -2.3 and migrated more positive in as I drove to -1.91 for 10min then i stopped for a while then moved to -1.3 for 10 min as i drove home.
That's right 2001 C2 911, 90kmiles with upgraded IMS unit installed with new clutch by PO at 75k miles. To rephrase, how should someone read the cam deviation values from Durametric? What are we looking for? Stable numbers between 0 and -4?
that sounds normal and well within spec
the reason youre supposed to check cam dev at hot idle is for this reason, numbers come down a bit as the car comes to operating temp
Maybe you mean the Variocam wear pads. The chain tensioners don't have pads. Did they just replace the tensioners and not the wear pads or both?
And, as others have mentioned, your camshafts deviations are within spec and so I wouldn't worry over it unless you're getting misfires or faults.
Pretty sure Porsche refers to variocam actuator as a tensioner . Most of the time.
After re-reading OPs post he should be reading cam deviation after engine is up to temp., AC is turned off and at idle. This is the accepted way of diagnosing deviation.
Like others have said your numbers are within spec.
Yea, it's technically a timing chain tensioner in the parts catalog I believe,
but here on Rennlist and other forums, in order to not get it confused with the other chain tensioners on the 5-chain engine, it has been historically referred to as the Variocam actuator or Variocam chain adjuster which is responsible for VVT unlike the normal chain tensioners on these engines.
For example, this is very helpful when explaining the steps for IMS bearing replacement which requires the removal of the chain tensioners so that load is not on the intermediate shaft when the IMS flange is removed. This is a moot point on the 3-chain M96 engines that do not use this part.
