Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Suggestion
A few extra EUR per liter for a weekend oil fill for the track is chump change compared to what youll burn in rubber alone.

5w40 will be fine at a frequent change interval for DE/track use.

Thanks, the Mobil 1 5w50 has a A40 (yes I do care :-)), but it costs 11EUR per liter and the millers 10w50 nt+ (race esther oil) is at 13EUR per liter, so at that stage I can live without the A40, thanks for the 5w40 recommendation, I track with 5w40 and I did not like the pressure, so I bumped up to 10w50 and there was a big change on track.

To actually answer that question accuratly you need full details of the engine...IE, all the bearing clearances , the acurate running oil pressure and the accurate running temperature...

As an American located in Europe I have to deal with local workshops and their set of knowledge, as I am tracking my 996's, I first reached out to Hartech (a renown UK engine rebuilder for p-cars) and asked for an oil recommendation they said to use Millers 10w-50 NT+ it's a fantastic oil that helps pressure.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Yeah, it's expensive, but it has worked well in my car.
Hi all,
While I know this topic has been beaten to death I would like to ask as I could not find anything other than in German on a German forum. Problem is it costs 85ish USD for 4 quarts and I have to import from the UK to Austria.
So I spoke to a renown engine rebuilder in Poland and asked what they run in their cars and they said 10w60 Shell Racing for the m96/97
https://www.shell.co.uk/motorist/eng...ng-10w-60.html
, (costs 30 USD per 5 quarts) I wanted to ask of you opinions can I run this oil without damage for track during summer / spring / autumn weather? What I gathered from the German forum is yes, but I don't want to bomb the engine.
Thanks!
I would think that a 60 weight oil might be a bit too thick. I assume your motor is completely stock. I suppose the 60 stuff might work on an engine that has looser clearances and as such that oil works well in that application. I'd look into other 50 weight oils. I think Motul should be widely available in Europe and is a good choice.
You will be hard pressed to find anyone running a 996 in Europe! Kidding 😁. I would think that 10-60 oil would be too thick. Id say 50w at the most. You might even be just fine with 40w.
To actually answer that question accuratly you need full details of the engine...IE, all the bearing clearances , the acurate running oil pressure and the accurate running temperature...
For Factory bearing clearances that oil would be too thick.
But for Track Work you for sure need to use a Racing oil made from Group IV / V oil ( PAO/Ester) for high temp protection and low aeration..
I have used Millers 5w40 for years. 3.6 with 59k miles. 14 years of track days. Purrs like a loud kitten.
Oil is changed in April and then after everytrack day. Last oil change is done in october.
10w60 too thick for street engine. Motul 8100 should be cheap enough there. 5w40 will be fine at a frequent change interval for DE/track use. All reports show very good shear resistance and perfectly good for street motor tolerances. And, if you care, it’s A40.
What strikes me really weirdly is that is seems in europe they commonly use 10w60, I called a engine builder and they were like "10w60" sounds about right for that engine.
59k
I have not tried any other weight with Millers. My indy uses it and so I use it as a result. Yeah, it's expensive, but it has worked well in my car. But I am an oil nut who has to have fresh oil and brake fluid in the car at all times. It killed me putting on over 1000 miles on the car without an oil change, so I could test the oil.
A few extra EUR per liter for a weekend oil fill for the track is chump change compared to what youll burn in rubber alone. Pay for some good stuff and keep that engine happy. Maintaining stable oil pressure is a big thing. Plenty of good 5w50 IV and V oils on the market.
Thanks and I agree, I spent some time with a friend discussing this (2+hours) and have come to the conclusion;
All P-cars will get Mobil 1 FS X1 5W-50, even BMW's with get Mobil 1 so I can deal with one distributor :-). Thanks for the help. It was never about the nominal value but rather the price to performance.
Hello Vect,
I just got my M96 rebuilt in Poland at a known specialist. They put 10W60 in my engine.
Which company were you in touch with? Maybe its the same company.
thanks!

DJ
