I would suspect Mods are like Judges in that they are not supose to let thier personal opinion affect there decision making , but it does...If you go before a Judge, the Judges personal opinion will be somewhat be reflected in thier decision...that's why Lawyers will research a Judges case history on a particular subject...I supose if Mods don't like Tiptronics.......

It's a an appropriate discussion for this forum insofar as members on this forum use the marketplace for buying and selling cars, parts, and tools.
These are separate views of the same evidence. Frequency alone does not establish a fix, and these counts must not be added together.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

While we in our country enjoy the fundamental right of free speech, it's still not without limits especially on a privately owned entity like BringATrailer or here, on Rennlist.
This is a question for members, but also for ADMIN. I've noticed something on this site that I've never seen allowed on the MANY other forums I frequent. That is the practice of crapping in other members "FOR SALE" posts. I've seen this A LOT here on Rennlist and I admit that it does not seem becoming. These are almost always some personal preference comment that DOES NOT have any relevance to the item for sale, or at the very least BELONGS SOMEWHERE ELSE! I don't know how ADMIN allows this but, more importantly I wish everyone had the self awareness not to. Is it just me?
The BaT effect, perhaps - all FS threads are magents for people who think it's their right to criticize and complain. And now we have mods doing it, despite the clear Marketplace rules.
That "other" site policies the classifieds in a much clearer, more strict way.
There have been a few instances of mods posting vehicles for sale without prices as well, and the very uneven application of the rule about linking to auctions for non-vendors.
Mods here only care if you hurt their feelings or disagree with their politics. You can insult anyone however you'd like on this website, so long as you don't violate the aforementioned topics.
I believe in "Free Speach" and I appriciate any organization that supports free speech. Free speech is protected because it may indeed be offensive to someone or cause "hurt feeling". That doesn't mean that we should be able to do it ANYWHERE. Free speech does not protect a protester walking into you livingroom and screaming his opinion. Now that is the legal part. I wish everyone had the common courtesy to speak their opinions and preferences (especially if degrading) in the place to which they were designated. THE FORUM.
The most common example I see is TipTronics. Some people like them and others don't but there are endless threads on this topic. Adding "Too bad it's a Tip" in someones Ad is just poopy, IMO.
I agree with your initial premise, but the ideological and legal constructs of free speech have no bearing on a privately-owned internet forum. Also, politics, etc.
not trying to change subject but is this a technical discussion ? i mean this is the subforum for that right?? It should be in General Discussion sub forum.
It's a an appropriate discussion for this forum insofar as members on this forum use the marketplace for buying and selling cars, parts, and tools. I also participate on the forums for the other vehicles I own and use their marketplaces and agree we should have a rule that discussions in the marketplace should be limited to questions and answers about the item for sale; i.e. "will it fit my car?" "Is it black? It looks grey in your photos." but thread-capping comments such as "XXX wheels are such garbage! I've broken 2 sets!" do not belong in the marketplace.
Haha... we're really getting specific with this poop talk.
I totally get what you're saying, but we have to remember there a big difference in the law regarding figurative pooping and literal pooping in public

they are also pretty good about deleting the comments that are just meant to be harmful and not providing any help. At least they were in the past. I was bidding on a car there just this weekend when someone made a bring a paint meter comment and boom the bidding stopped. He provided no details, owner posted meter readings after that and the car did sell but at how much of a discount because of that comment? Its sad that we are now seeing that stuff here.

This reminds me of what the bottom half of law school graduates are called ......"Your Honor"
Free Speech. If you post a for sale ad in any forum, just expect it. Nothing wrong with it and in fact as I seller I have welcomed the banter. Another change to prove the peanut gallery wrong.
Doesn't effect a true buyers decisions of which there aren't many. Certainly effects the sellers mood.
Sorry to contradict you but in my opinion, your wrong on this and I speak from experience. When I was searching for my first 911 I specifically passed up a few great cars because people added comments like "too bad it's a Tip" or "if it weren't a TipTronic". With comments like these, I thought there was something wrong with TipTronic transmissions as if there were a fundamental flaw with them. After doing the research IN THE FORUMS I learned that they are actually great transmissions. the poop comments were NOTHING but personal preference and no bearing on the ad itself and can easily affect the ad negatively. the ad for no other reason than careless discourtesy so IMO, yes there is something wrong with doing that in someones AD.
Yea... you're actually right. While we in our country enjoy the fundamental right of free speech, it's still not without limits especially on a privately owned entity like BringATrailer or here, on Rennlist. Just like you'd kick someone out of your house when they harassed your spouse, IB has the right to ban you from this platform for harassing other members. Some platforms allow more than others. The extreme venues are nothing more than cesspools for vile exchanges.
Now, getting onto the topic of your Tiptronic transmission. I've personally owned a Tiptronic Cayman, and I'll have to say that it's the most sporty and fun automatic I've ever owned. The gear ratio and shift parameters are spot perfect.. yea, I know the double clutch PDK guys are rolling their eyes with that statement. But the fact remains, cars (even Porsches) are moving to more automatics than ever before. You can't even get the Turbo in manual anymore and I'd venture to say that most of the new Carreras sold today are automatic. But the old school folks (including me) love the true manual cars and that's why a 996 Turbo manual is going to be more valuable at auction over the Tiptronic versions. Another problem is the expense of servicing the Tiptronic vs. the manual. Tiptronic transmissions of the old 996 cars are not as supported like newer versions and many shops won't even fool with them because of the complexity, lack of parts, and liability expense. One of the most popular threads on this forum was with a failed Tiptronic transmission. Read through it... it's an adventure to say the least. Overall, 996 Tiptronic are great cars, but you just got to realize the risk when buying one. Manual vs. Tiptronic debates are like the V8 vs. V6 muscle car debates, they're just useless as **** on a bull.

Pooping on for sale ads is not "allowed" and frankly is the most common issue we respond to after spam, and yes it seems to be getting worse. Some repeat offenders have been banned from even viewing the classified forums.
Mods are unpaid volunteers responding to issues as we are made aware of them on our spare time. Never in the history of Rennlist have we been expected to read every single thread or post, which is why we rely heavily on the reported post function. It's really easy, you push this button, type in why, and we all see it:
Once posts have been removed there's no record of it ever being there, unless you are a mod. Long story short, unless you saw the offending posts before we are made aware of it, you'll never see any action taking place which I guess could lead some to believe we never do anything.
Next time instead of complaining about it, report it. Thank you
Being that my wife and I just dealt with literally dozens of trash, lying sellers on Marketplace while trying to buy her a temporary replacement for her totaled car (we can't get a new minivan that she wants thanks to inventory shortages), I can say that most of these Marketplace sellers deserve to be put in their place. I have bought many cars online and via marketplace even in the past. It is just a haven for scammers and garbage sellers now. We looked at a car that the guy listed as MINT CONDITION. We go look at it and the car looked like a golf ball. It had more hail damage than I've ever seen. Every single panel of the car was scratched, dents all over. Front bumper was falling off from a very apparent accident, and the guy tells me wife the clips holding it was just to make it look sporty. Interior looked like a buffalo lived in it for a good year or two. Brakes looked like they were original brakes, as in first brakes ever invented. We'd message people and ask basic questions like, "which engine does this car have" and get responses like "yes". We went to go look at cars and the people didn't show. One that didn't show tells us he is off getting a new key made for the car. We went at the time we were supposed to meet and that was his excuse for not showing. We responded a couple times and then never heard from him again. We had our two young kids with us even and wasted our time. So FB Marketplace sellers at this point in time, deserve all the trash talking they get in my opinion. We didn't come across a single honest person.
I think the bigger issue with the classified section on this site is that ads are permitted to stay active long after an item ha sold. People list, and then disappear all the time. It should be mandatory to update the post within a specified time from original posting or it should time out and delete. I realize this may not be possible to do automatically depending on the forum coding, and that it is a huge undertaking for mods to handle, but the way it is, I really don't even bother looking anymore. So many times did I look at an ad, only to realize its actually like 2 years old and just was bumped cause of a comment about whether its available.
I recently responded to a listing in the Rennlist Market Place from several months ago without realizing it was a really old ad.
If I had realized that I wouldn’t have.
Surprisingly they still had it and we’re willing to make me a great deal.
You can find some great deals here in the Market Place!
Just save me a few!
This aggression will not stand, Man...
I've been a site moderator on a not so busy forum and it was plenty. So much in fact that I don't wish to do it again. I can't even imagine how much of a pain it would be for a site like this. I have a lot of respect for good and fair moderators and I'm aware that you can't possibly catch all of the problems.
Take a look at my original post. I'm "complaining" because I'm wondering if I'm alone in my "complaint". Bringing awareness to a potential problem can aid in finding a solution. Is this a DISCUSSION forum or not? I asked the question to Admin because I presume that is how policy is made. Mods got brought into the discussion becuse my thread happened at exactly the time that a "mod" added an inaccurate criticism on THIS CAR of all cars!!!
https://rennlist.com/forums/market/1333290
. But the criticism of the Mods had nothing to do with me. I'm "complaining" about a practice that seems wrong to me, no matter who does it.
This is a good point. If the 72' that I linked above was not as advertised, then the comments would be Relevant. In my opening thread I complained that "These are almost always some personal preference comment that DOES NOT have any relevance to the item for sale,"
Here is a perfect example. Take a look at the first comment:
https://rennlist.com/forums/market/1333698
. The seller advertised the car accurately but someone had to poop in his ad for no other reason than personal preference.
Say what?
Yes it's a discussion forum, where did I say you could not discuss this topic? Did I close your thread, move it, delete it.....no, I joined the discussion by responded to it. You say you asked the question to Admin, which one did you contact? If you went through such channels and got zero response, that's another situation all together I can look into.
We are in agreement 100% on the topic. Nothing irritates me more than folks needlessly crapping in for sale threads. I've received the nastiest responses from folks defending their "right" to say whatever they want in such threads.
Here's a good example, there are 9 responses to this seller, yet only one remains:
https://rennlist.com/forums/market/1335791
The rest are busting the sellers ***** about flipping. This is probably the #1 thing we continue to fight on the for sale threads. Folks who don't like flippers and are hell bent on making sure we all hear about it.
What I find very interesting is very seldom are the sellers themselves reporting these posts, it's other members.
I should note, that some vendors who use the classified section have asked us to leave all responses, they welcome the discussion (no such thing as bad publicity to some).
Just to reiterate, such posts in for sale threads are not typically allowed, and the best thing to do is report such posts so we can intervene if needed.
As for the question about automatically expiring for sale threads, I need to look into that. I recall some time ago that was being discussed but I don't recall where that went.
By saying that I should report it instead of "complaining" your infering that I shouldn't complain.
It's Ok Dude. I think were on the same page anyway and I've said what I wanted to say. Thanks for listing.
