Coverage and how to read this overview
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.
14 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

Hello, previous owner of mk1 996 installed a battery disconnect next to the battery in the frunk. For storage this makes sense when there is not access to power for a trickle charger as we all know the alarm likes to drain the battery. How do you use this without getting locked out of the frunk while still locking the doors (manually with a key)? Anyone have a flow chart? 🤣
Thanks!
Good thought, but then the frunk will be open, right? I need to be able to close it. I wanted to latch I just don't want the interior release lever to be locked....
Thanks!
I'm still muttering under my breath because the folks that pulled my engine closed the frunk and none of the "easy" methods will pop it. I'm waiting until the weather is a bit warmer and then I'll go in through the PS fender liner. Grumble.
Anyhoo. Once that is done I intend to relocate the release cable to the tow hook opening.
EDIT: mine is a 996.2, not terribly relevant.
That is SO frustrating. It's a really poor design. The number of times this has inconvenienced the owner compared to prevented a theft is laughable. I spent an hour in a public garage trying to get the trunk open including being in the fuse panel until finally realized I could hook the booster pack in the engine compartment. But seriously bad design...
Pull the connector off the solenoid that blocks the lever when it is in its open position.
It's mounted underneath the plinth that holds both levers. Pull the 3 plugs on the side of the cover that holds the levers. Back of the nuts a couple of turns and you can pull the whole assembly upwards. Then you'll see the solenoid.
It connects to the rod on the RHS end but is missing in belows pic
This is the solenoid you should remove the connector from
Chances are that you'll get a single beep upon arming the alarm from then on as this lock will be identified as not operating
I have a Rennline battery disconnect with my Odyssey battery.
I'm able to use my NOCO jump starter with the jumper in the fuse box to pop open my frunk even when the battery is disconnected.
I've tested it with my car in the garage.
But I'm thinking about replacing my Odyssey & battery disconnect with a full sized battery.
I went with the Odyssey for the lighter weight.
But now I'm not so worried about weight since I got my F6I Track Performer Stage 2.
Very cool setup! You're out of my league 🤣. Your point is very valid, what's so hard about hooking up a booster pack. Just not user friendly if someone other than you needs to engage the vehicle.
Here are some potential options....
If you not storing your car over 2 months our Battery has built in jump starting and is a lithium battery.... but more expensive than a Lead Acid Battery, but you will never be stranded by a dead battery again. check out the video in the link to learn more....

Or if you have this other handy product we make called a Clamplesss Jump Start Harness you can always power your Car with our MICRO-START Jump Starters and pop the frunk anytime you need to.

All very cool tech. Will keep in mind when it's time for a new battery!
Will your harness work with my random brand liion jump batteries that have the same connector? GooLoo I think is their name.
Yes, absolutely.... many of the brands use the standardized EC5 connector or a varient of that as we do. Some brands do the proprietary thing ala NOCO, or for chargers like CTEK. The properietary things make it a bit harder so we choose to stay with the standardized connector for broader use.
