Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

I do have a little tick on the bank 2 side hopefully thatll go away or maybe I should have changed the lifters.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

7 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

0 evidence records excluded for query context · 0 excluded by outcome qualification · 0 adjusted by outcome qualification.

0 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

It runs but getting lots of steam out of bank 1 exhaust also a small coolant leak coming from the bank one side. Seems to be dripping from the from the lip of the scavenge pump. Im hoping its coming from the AOS. But cant see that far up to verify. would a bad AOS cause steam to come out of only one side? really hoping Im not looking at a cracked head or something

POST 2 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Update- ran it again. The steam from bank 1 has subsided. Its a very cool moist day here so theres a bit of moisture coming from both sides now but what Id consider normal. the coolant was actually dripping from the AOS connection point on the reservoir. Hitting the heat shield and running forward before it would drip. I think all is well on that front. I do have a little tick on the bank 2 side hopefully thatll go away or maybe I should have changed the lifters. Ugh.

POST 3Original post

Is the steam coming out the exhaust pipe? Or is coming out from under the car? Or what exactly?

POST 4Original post

You will get a lot of steam for the first 30 minutes. It looks scary but if it goes away after 30 minutes, it's OK.

thanks for that. It was super misty here yesterday which added to the amount of steam. And yeah, it went away. Running like a champ. Unfortunately, my durametric died before I could look at all of the parameters. The replacement on.should be here in the next few days. Gives me time to tidy up some of the other loose ends on the car.

POST 6Original post

The MLS head gaskets on the 996 need about 50 heat cycles to really seat. Keep the RPM's under 5 till then. Full heat Heat cycle = 30 min at 180, cool for > 6 hours 30 min at 180. Longer trips don't help and should be avoided till your broke in.
