Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Took the spacers off and since the spacers werent that big, I thought I was using the OEM bolts.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hello members, Im having an issue with a 996 4S (manual transmission). When trying to backup the car it comes to an abrupt stop. Nothing blocking the wheels and the emergency brake is off. Im able to pull forward and reverse to the original spot (limited since its in the garage) with no issues. Try to reverse more, then it abruptly stops (same spot as the first time). Turned the car off and placed in neutral, try to push it, same results. Any insight would be appreciated. Thank you.

POST 2Original post

Jack the car and spin the tires individually. One should feel different. If i would have to guess i would say the lining on one of the e-brake shoes has seperated and is jambing the rotor. Even though its a 4s the fronts should not be the issue as power is not sent to the front at slow speeds.

Thank you De Jeeper for your response. Took a look at the brakes and all was well. But it dawned on me, I had spacers on prior and was in the process of swapping wheels. Took the spacers off and since the spacers werent that big, I thought I was using the OEM bolts. End of the day, the bolts were too long. Put the spacers on to test and it solved the mystery. Silly mistake. It didnt dawn on me since its been about 5 years since I put the spacers on. Thank you again for your response, much appreciated.

I was coming here to ask what lug bolts you were using. I saw the same thing happen to someone at the track one day that had to remove spacers to put different wheels on.
