I am changing my IMS bearing and would like to install the new style flange (996-105-017-02) with the ribbed seal as opposed to the original which has an o-ring.

If anyone has replaced a Pelican kit and has the bolt available for a reasonable price I would be interested.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

5 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

0 evidence records excluded for query context · 0 excluded by outcome qualification · 0 adjusted by outcome qualification.

1 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

I've seen the three rib seal leak too; it's better but still not perfect.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I am changing my IMS bearing and would like to install the new style flange (996-105-017-02) with the ribbed seal as opposed to the original which has an o-ring. There must be some of these sitting in people parts boxes... and replacement seals are available. Getting the updated bolt is a long-shot. It is not a Porsche part rather it comes with the Pelican IMDB kit. If anyone has replaced a Pelican kit and has the bolt available for a reasonable price I would be interested.

No, I didn't buy a kit. I bought the NSK bearing like the one that was installed at the factory. It is explained in this thread. http://986forum.com/forums/performan...nt-thread.html

Interesting. Surprised you haven't been burned at the stake for not using one of the many aftermarket solutions. I can't say as I agree, but I do find the approach interesting. Are you installing the new bearing with or without the factory grease seals? I've seen the three rib seal leak too; it's better but still not perfect. May not be worth the effort in attempting to locate one. FWIW, when I replaced the larger bearing in my 07 997, I considered using a factory spec bearing there. In the end I opted for an LN bearing in the original large size.

Thanks for the tip on the ribbed flange... that encourages me to keep the old one. I am usually over on the 986 forum as well as 986forum.com and the number of people burned at the stake for IMSB heresy seems to have dropped. Recently there was a first hand report of a LN bearing that failed dramatically, Perhaps that has made questioning orthodoxy more acceptable.
