Rat in that thread specifically mentions zinc is not necessary for good wear protection, as obviously whatever other additives the motorcraft is using with only 600ish zinc is testing much better than higher zinc oils of similar weight.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

that is what Porsche recommends. Others have different opinions
do a search for Porsche approved oil and you should find a list
It depends on what Kool-Aid you drink to decide on what oil to use
Thanks guys in my owners manual that weight is not listed as approved. That is why I had asked. I "thought" I had read somewhere there was an amendment.

Much discussion on both issues previous Posts.
The specific version the OP asks about ( 0w-40 -not -30) is interesting because it has a beneficial higher amount of ZDDP and Phosphorus.

It is a bit difficult to make a wise choice . The manual mentions 15w50 as a choice above 50 degrees. I have to change my oil and I bought m1 0w40 and after looking again at the manual I changed it to M1 15w50. Now saying the manual is obsolete is quite confusing. Should I return to 0w40 here in Florida???
At your next oil change, switch to Mobil 5W50. This is Porsche A40 approved. In the meantime, if your car consumes any oil, top off with M 0W40 to thin down your current 15W50.
From that thread it looks like the motorcraft synthetic 5250 is rated the highest for the heavier weight oils, but it's not on the porsche approved list.

Interesting.
Obsolete doesn't mean wrong. I just go with the current list, because that's easier for me. If sticking with the manual is easier for you, I see no problem with that.
