Haven't got a chance to go up there and check the damage in detail...don't really want to because Brian (the manager, I've known him for a while...fellow Porsche man), said close your eyes when you come by lol.

A lot of lurkers are expecting to have a 996 with less than 70000 miles with all records, showroom condition, and off course with the IMS, RMS, AOS recently change for $15000, and unfortunately some members encourage this prices.

Probably because I had to use the find my iPhone app to find which yard they took the car to....got the new 6S as a replacement though, neat phone!
These are separate views of the same evidence. Frequency alone does not establish a fix, and these counts must not be added together.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Thanks!!
Sorry I went off the grid there for a bit,
yep, luckily she's not totaled! The insurance company approved an auto body shop here in NJ to do the work, so they had it picked up from the tow truck place and taken to the body shop.
The only thing that was "totaled" was my iPhone. Cracked screen and of course by the time I picked it up the battery was dead. Probably because I had to use the find my iPhone app to find which yard they took the car to....got the new 6S as a replacement though, neat phone!

All in all I am VERY happy I get to keep the car, don't care about the rebuilt title because I won't be getting rid of the car in this lifetime.
Thanks for asking BTW!
Ah! forgot to mention, the driver was charged with careless driving, reckless driving, failure to yield, and failure to signal. A total of 11 points. Unless the tree hugger has a top notch attorney then he's losing his license and getting dropped from his insurance. Granted he doesn't have any prior offenses, of course.
That's one more Prius off the road!
haha they'll pin him for that next time he gets behind the wheel
Oh, and the police report read no injuries. So his little crying on the ground act was a classic hipster move
Funny, until lately we didn't hear a lot about the headlights... Now they are a prime piece in every article. I believe the guy that could design a headlight that looks worth a damn, and functions for the 996 would be successful.
The headlights have never bothered me, I think the biggest issue with them is they were found on the Boxster FIRST, and 911 owners never want to think that one piece from a Boxster would fit their car. They hate it when I tell them the engine internals are almost identical! If those headlights would have first been used on the 911, the Boxster guys would have loved it, and I bet we'd not read as much about it.
I think we have already rebounded from rock bottom on prices, and are heading back up. I see this based on the investment that owners are willing to make for the engines in their early cars. I have 7 members of my wait list for engines that are 99 models alone, a handful of 2000s and 2001s, too. We haven't had this many early cars on the list since 2008. The odd thing is the mk2 cars are very lightly represented, and the schedule jumps straight to 997s.
The future will be a bit interesting, but I have already stopped selling broken cars, and I am just stock piling them waiting for the prices to return. Get them on jack stands, drain the fuel, pickle them and wait.
I like the article and it makes perfect sense to me, like Real State, always going to look good after 20 years, the only part I'm not agree is the $10000 price, may be for a roller, rebuilt tittle or previous accident but not for a well maintained 996, Turbos now are $45000 and up, any 996 with 80K or more are the ones between 15-20K and one with all the records can ask for more. Low miles 996 depending on the options high 20's and up.
A lot of lurkers are expecting to have a 996 with less than 70000 miles with all records, showroom condition, and off course with the IMS, RMS, AOS recently change for $15000, and unfortunately some members encourage this prices. Either you like it or not the 996 will be the first 911 with a water cooled engine, something the 997 can't say and just for that will add an historical value.
Great article overall! The only thing that has me hesitant is the projection that values of 996s will shoot up in the near future. I have bigger doubts on that point, solely based on the availability of the model in the used market. Sales of the 993 kept dwindling due to the "old technology", and when the 996 came out, despite how horrified the purists were, the 996 sold like hotcakes compared to the 993. Funny how that likely ended up helping resale values of the last 2 generations of aircooled cars.
Of course I'd be thrilled if my car appreciated in value at some point (proud 996.2 owner here), but it really wouldn't matter too much for me. At the end of the day, I plan on keeping this car for a long long time, and if I'm happy with what I've got, any further external validation is just icing on the cake.
While I'd like to jump on the "I own an investment-grade Porsche" bandwagon, the author glosses over important things like the sheer number of 996's that exist and the fact that other less-favored Porsches (928 and others) don't enjoy the halo effect of the air-cooled 911 and other very early Porsches. Even the 912, the "entry-level Porsche" (where have we heard that before? Oh yeah, 986, 987, and IMO Macan) has appreciated - because it's OLD and exists in truly limited supply, whereas the 928 and other Porsches that in my opinion are VERY collectible have yet to enjoy the irrational inflation like older models (356/911/912/914).
The 996 is an awesome car. I love owning it. It's like an Ikea bookshelf - it looks nice, it holds up well, it does everything I want it to, and it was a fantastic bargain - but I'm not going to plan my retirement around its appreciation as an asset. Might it happen someday? Sure. If you've watched 914 prices over the past 5 years, you know that even the much-maligned Porschewagen has enjoyed monstrous appreciation. Same with the 912's - you could find 'em cheap just a few years ago. Is the 996 going to skyrocket in value in my lifetime? Maybe...but it took the 914 40-45 years. I'm only 45, but I'm not convinced I'll be around to see the 996 become truly collectible, let alone a "grail" car like barn-find 356's.
