It will be the first time I've pulled it with the 996TT - I just got the hitch installed last week.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I go hunting a couple times a year and the occasional trip to the shooting range. As I look to give up my 4Runner for a 996, a thought that just crossed my mind about where I'm going to put a gun case. Does anybody have experience transporting firearms (rifles, shotguns) in their 996, or Porsche in general? Do you have a special setup or tricks?
Know I'll also be in the market for a roof rack for the road bikes...
I did search for a roof rack specific rifle case and didn't find one. Know Porsche has a specific roof rack too and doubt it's compatible if such a product exists.
Was kind of assuming people transported their rifles inside the vehicle, but maybe I'm wrong. If there's a product I'm missing, would love clarity on that. Maybe the Texas and Arizona guys have some experience with this??
Been there... I used to set aside my 88 Carrera for hunting. A 300 Ultra Mag rifle is a little long to fit comfortably, so I typically carried a carbine of some sort. When I killed one, I'd usually skin him o site, then quarter him up and put it in trash bags in the trunk, then drive to the processor
:-)
Well, no offense Jake, but when I head out to the backwoods, I want something a little more manly than a carbine (which, let's face it, is the Boxster of the gun world). This does well for me - I typically pull it inside the front gate of my Uncle Homer's farm before I unhitched it from the '99 coupe. Had to be careful when taking the trailer tongue off the ball hitch not to let the weight from the barrel pop the tongue up and hit the taco wing on the '99. Deer season starts next week, so keep your fingers crossed that I don't bugger up the GT2 wing on the turbo. It will be the first time I've pulled it with the 996TT - I just got the hitch installed last week.
The carbine I was hunting with today is a 45-70 lever gun, its a bit manly, albeit compact.
I haven't had to go more than 50 yards behind my shop to get my bag limit the last 3 years. I restored the 88 Carrera and won't be hunting with it anytime soon!
Good stuff, It's always a toss up for me on whether I bring the turbo or Vette for deer season. Rifle season starts sat in Texas I better hurry up and decide.
When I go hunting with the AMG, I tow my 2A65 "Msta-B" with the custom trailer hitch. I have to add the silly "red flag" to the tip of the thing to alert people to the oversized load. Car's performance is affected slightly, I can't outrun the 911 porkers and cocksters when starting in 2nd gear when I am towing this thing; have to downshift to 1st to make it happen.
I am having hard time locating the nuclear ammo though, have to settle for conventional shells. I would like to fire a few nuclear shots at some deer, so they instantly turn into jerky!

Last winter dealing with my deceased parents personal belongings I carried a couple of shotguns one a 12 gage pump and a rifle in the back seat of my Turbo. Didn't use them just hauled them around for a while until I had the info necessary to ship them to my sister.
I put a blanket over the gun cases so no one would be tempted to smash a window and grab the guns.
Heh love the photos. For the record, tennis racquet cases don't work great unless you tweak them a little. I tried it for a short barrel AR...sagged funny, you could tell it wasn't a racquet in there. :-)
That said, to the original question - I go to the range all the time with my 996. I can get my rifle bag in the back with two weapons in it...it sits across the folded down seats just fine. I haven't tried to get my shotgun in the car yet, but I have seen folks in 911s unloading shotguns for sporting clays so I don't imagine it would be a problem.
Yeah yeah, I know....crazy Texans and our guns. :P ;-)
my browning A-bolt in a soft case just fits under my rear 09 cay hatch. it cant be seen from the outside. the bolt, ammo, etc are in the frunk and i remember to drive like i have a gun in the car.from my avatar you can see how to mount a M 1919
Yeah, You have to get actual tactical cases designed to look like sport bags. They'll be built with support and straps etc. Golf bags work a treat for long guns those don't get a second look here in Fla.
Many of the guys I shoot IDPA and three gun with have nicely conceals carry gear. We live in urban areas where gun cases make people nervous.
I don't know where you guys go to shoot/hunt, but the outdoor range I go to would rip the guts out of both the 996 and the Corvette...so the 996 really only gets to carry stuff from the gun shop and an occasional ammo box from the gun show.
