I have some aluminum stock and an old "immigrants running across the freeway dragging their child" sign from the border checkpoint...perfect!

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

14 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

  • Rennlist: 1 discussions

0 evidence records excluded for query context · 0 excluded by outcome qualification · 0 adjusted by outcome qualification.

1 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

Hell, it worked most of the time for the shuttle, and that thing was more of a potato than the SC thread OP's camera.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Just wondering what everybody does when they find themselves in the back of a C130 at 20,000 ft. I have seen a few movies and can't quite work out the dynamics for attaching a parachute.

POST 2Original post

I always just strapped in with a long tether, lowered the ramp and enjoyed the view.

POST 3Original post

I see you kicked this up a notch....guessing from the classic original: where do you put your phone in your car??

POST 4Original post

I usually keep the parachute in the back (with the guns and phones). I figure during free-fall I can secure the 'chute to the harness bar, open the sunroof, and just toss the parachute up through the sunroof.

POST 6Original post

The rear bumper support posts will handle about 17G for < 330mS. Or, that's what it used to be when I was working in field on fronts. Pretty sure the rear would be the same. I'd use a couple of cables, and two separate lanyards one per side.

POST 7Original post

I used to put mine under the rear wing. I get thrown out of the plane, and I simply reach down to the fuse box and flip the switch and woowoohooowoop and suddenly I'm dangling at 17000ft listening to Pink Floyd singing This is the End.

POST 8Original post

I have about 5000 hours flying on differing variants of the 130, and we would never drop anything from 20,000 feet, so hopefully that wasnt your plan. But to answer your question, more than likely you would put the car on a pallet, strap it to the pallet and rig the chutes from the pallet.

POST 9Original post

I was inspired by a food truck, Taco wing out back and spatula canards up front, will pop the sunroof up for the airbrake

POST 10Original post

I bet I could 3D print some shims for the wing to give it negative downforce...i.e. lift. If I installed a set of movable spatulas up front as someone so brilliantly suggested, I think I might be able to glide the 996 in! I'm thinking a damn steep dive with a last minute flare, full spatula, just seconds before touch down. Hell, it worked most of the time for the shuttle, and that thing was more of a potato than the SC thread OP's camera. Ima go drink some beer and start fabbing up some spatulas. I have some aluminum stock and an old "immigrants running across the freeway dragging their child" sign from the border checkpoint...perfect!

POST 11Original post

I've jumped out of a number of them. A couple I was happy to be out of them, but generally, I would rather just drive them home. Most C-130's I've flown in, I would rather land in. As far as my driving is concerned, my take-offs equal my landings. Not all of my friends can say the same. BTW, parachutes don't belong on cars, especially P-cars nor do they belong on mules, dogs or other things that you car about. OK, to put them on C-rats, 105 & 155mm rounds and snake eaters (they're strange anyway). I did once deliver to an arty crew that had been in the desert for 2 weeks in august a pallet of stakes and cold beer. They thought I was angle from above, but never a P-car. - Fast
