Read evidence and context
Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

I used ice to cool it frequently to minimize heat build up.
Leading evidence: 'Use ice' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Check fuses tomorrow' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

Side note my radio has no power now, will need to check fuses tomorrow.

Until you test for 12v at the other 2 relay prongs wont know for sure .?

Assuming it will fit in the relay box, could I use the vw one?
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I jumped the fuelpump relay and I was able to get fuel pressure, seems like that points to a bad relay. I have a vw relay. The dealer said a VW or audi relay could work. I have the vw, attached. The only difference i can see is that two of the prongs are thicker. Assuming it will fit in the relay box, could I use the vw one?
Thanks for the input.

Below includes the schematic.
The Meyle appears to be a standard relay.
85 & 86 are for the coil, 87 & 30 are for the switched 12V load.
Check that the factory relay has the same terminal numbers marked on it. (and the terminals are in the same location)
They are typically on the underside if they're not printed on the side.
if it isn't marked, let me know and I'll go pull one and test it.
Fitment may be your biggest issue though.
I ground down the two larger prongs to fit the slots in the car. I used ice to cool it frequently to minimize heat build up. I was worried about vibration, but seems to be okay.

]I don't understand. Why not just buy the correct relay?
I had the VW one on hand and the dealer did not have one. i will probably buy a porsche one anyway.

Ya, thats a heavy duty 40 amp relay. That'll never wear out in 996. The stock 996 fuel pump relay is 15 amps. The prongs should be in the right location, just that the 1 line in spade is wider than the oem relay and probably wont fit into the relay plug without snipping off a little from the inside of the spade connector prong, with a sharp pair of dikes.
"I jumped the fuelpump relay and I was able to get fuel pressure, seems like that points to a bad relay"
Jumping the load side of the relay doesn't tell you if the control voltage is there...? just that the pump works and load side circuit works,, could be as simple as a FI control fuse, or something else in the control circuit. maybe not the pump relay.? Until you test for 12v at the other 2 relay prongs wont know for sure .?
