Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. I use the "Battery Tender" brand, so I can't really speak for the C-Tek.
Leading evidence: 'Use "battery tender" brand' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, the most frequently mentioned possible cause is 'light is staying' (1 discussions; 0 report identifying it and 1 suggest it). The most frequently discussed action is 'Disconnect maintainer' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

I use a ctek which is hard-wired with a quick release connector but I just pack up the unit as im yet to find a good route for the cables and I also haven't purchased the longer c-teck cable.

I suspect the light is staying on because I can see it as I close the lid alllll the way down as it clicks (doing so outside, after dark, so its' pretty obvious).

Suggestion
If I leave the hood open, there's no chance I'll forget to disconnect the maintainer.

Suggestion
I would have to look in a repair book to confirm, but have read the frunk switch is in the latch mechanism.

Suggestion
Just run the wire for the maintainer right down the gutter next to the frunk tub (the part with the weatherstrip on it - this is the only part that actually contacts the frunk lid/hood).

These are separate views of the same evidence. Frequency alone does not establish a fix, and these counts must not be added together.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I suspected a battery draining event, so, seeing as the wife is petite, I crammed her in the frunk and slammed the lid. Half an hour later when I opened it, she said "Guess what? The light stayed on" - then I woke up in the ER

Anybody know where the activation switch is located? (Again, doing the looking in the dark, but not seeing anything that looked right) I pulled the light assembly.
I would have to look in a repair book to confirm, but have read the frunk switch is in the latch mechanism. I think a micro switch is located in that area.
Do you have a cell phone? Switch it to video mode, start recording, and close it in your frunk. Watch the video.
You can just pull the bulb out and be done - at least temporarily - if the only symptom is the bulb staying on. I pulled my bulb out because leaving the frunk open for tech inspections was draining the battery more than I liked. My maintainer connection is at the battery tray, so the frunk stays open whenever car is on the charger. I didn't like how hot the incandescent bulb got. Someday I'll replace the frunk bulb with LED.
I always thought this was obvious, but perhaps not. Any time I am working on either the engine or in the frunk for any amount of time I always do the following.
Just take a screw driver or anything and push the locking mechanism in just like the upper metal catch would if you were closing them. The lock will click shut and the light will turn off. When I hook up the battery tender I leave the frunk open. Of course it is in my garage. So I don't have to route the cord out when the frunk is closed. Many times I have the engine lid open for a long time poking around in there, so doing this shuts the light off and save the battery.
I always kind a laugh when I hear guys using iphone cameras or shutting the frunk with someone in it to see if the light goes out. When you can just push the latch closed with any appropriate tool until the latch clicks down just as the upper catch bar would do when really closing it. If the light goes out, switch working; light stays on, bad switch.
My apologies if this can not be done on cars with electric releases, I have a '99 with cable releases. However, I believe the latches can still be pushed closed manually with a tool without closing the actual frunk or engine lid. My Mercedes and Audi have electronic latches and I do this all the time with them.
CAUTION: MAKE SURE YOU RELEASE THE LATCH BEFORE ACTUALLY SHUTTING THE FRUNK OR ENGINE LID. IF NOT IT WILL SLAM DOWN ON THE CLOSED LATCH
I know this is also true - I have left my frunk lid open over night and the car shuts off the light after a certain period of time (I don't know the time but I know it is off in the morning). I do not know if this applies if the microswitch is bad/not working.
Incidentally when the frunk light is on so is the rear hatch light so there are actually two bulbs running.
There is a shut off period I read about somewhere I think it's around 2 hours.
I removed my frunk light and rear light because they get hot didn't want to drain the battery or burn out. I leave the hood popped when it's in storage (not a DD).
As for using a maintainer my connector is in the battery tray too but I put a sponge between the front of the frunk and body then close the lid on it. This keeps the pressure off the struts and creates a gap for the wires (maintainer to battery, maintainer to power cables).
Heh. Yes, this is obvious. But the flaw is also obvious:
But...
There's no chance I'm going to remember that latter part every time.
I have a phone in my pocket more often than I have a screwdriver or other tool. Additionally, using the phone technique does not result in accidentally slamming the front trunk down on a closed latch...but ultimately, doing whatever works trumps doing nothing.
No need for this (or leaving the frunk open). Just run the wire for the maintainer right down the gutter next to the frunk tub (the part with the weatherstrip on it - this is the only part that actually contacts the frunk lid/hood). There's plenty of room therefor the wire - no pinching...
I leave it ajar so to speak as it stays in storage until the weekend and its just easier if the battery goes flat.
As for the wire how did you route the cable from the battery into the frunk? Or do you just remove the battery trim and pass the wire down the seal along the Fender? My ctek cables aren't that long.
I've been meaning to tackle that but haven't really found a good way. Only way I could see was a grommet through to the frunk but the wire would have to sit behind the lining. It's a job for another day...
when I replaced my battery a couple of year ago, I hardwired a Delvac Battery Tender
(like $35 from Costco)
developed a habit of unlocking the frunk if I'm not going to drive the car for a few days,
....if longer I plug in the maintainer...I leave the whole maintainer unit in the frunk
sort of a luxury as my car is always garaged, the cord is about 3' from the front bumper
and I just leave the bonnet unlatched
took the bulb out a long time ago
This is exactly what I do when I want the frunk shut. I run it out the headlight gap because my outlet is ahead of my car. You can, of course, just run it out the cowl area like shown also, there is no pinch point that way.
Sorry, pics need rotated clockwise....
Same, stored in the garage, frunk ajar and no front or rear lights. I use a ctek which is hard-wired with a quick release connector but I just pack up the unit as im yet to find a good route for the cables and I also haven't purchased the longer c-teck cable. I had thought about routing it through the spot where the audio cables go but power next to audio is not a great idea.
If I leave the hood open, there's no chance I'll forget to disconnect the maintainer. No, I have not driven away from a gas station with the nozzle attached...I'm absent-minded, not
completely
stupid.
I use the "Battery Tender" brand, so I can't really speak for the C-Tek. In my case, I hooked up a quick connect end to the battery that stays with the car at all times. This just gets routed out under the battery cover/cowling and rests on the perforated panel over the brake master cylinder. When I need to hook it up, I have an extension (long) cable from the charging/monitoring unit that plugs right into the quick connect. None of the wires enter the "Frunk" area they run alongside it, out the bottom next to the headlight and over the front bumper...

I had the same idea and put her in the frunk and asked her tell me not only if the light goes out but tell me if it comes back on for any reason. She confirmed the light does go out but never heard anything about it coming back on. Been about 2 years now and so far so good but the cost of the air fresheners are killin' me!!
