Read evidence and context
Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

I've installed long tube headers and Fabspeeds dual cone intake.
Leading evidence: 'Install long tube headers and fabspeeds dual cone intake' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Install long tube headers and fabspeeds dual cone intake' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

They do a series of "Mythbusted" videos using the 997 3.6 to see improvements using bolt-on parts.

Well done videos that pretty much confirm what we all know about minimal improvements for a NA engine using IPD/TB.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

So I'm trying to determine, should I spend the $$ or am I wasting $$. I've recently read a rather long thread on the IPD plenum {with dyno results} on a 3.8 S with little results. As you know the 3.8 comes with the 82mm TB and is slightly bigger cubic inch motor than the 997.1 base 3.6. {which I have}.
But I've seen no results on the 3.6. I've installed long tube headers and Fabspeeds dual cone intake. Should a 3.6 see any feasable gains since its smaller CI and 74mm TB? I'm moving one step/one mod at a time. The latter will be a tune but would the 3.6 benefit better than the 3.8 did with the plenum setup?
Even with before and after dyno runs, in the end I think you will find it is a waste of money, unless you modify the tune of the ECU, and even then still a waste of money. IMHO
It's a waste of money.
The M96 engine isn't a performance engine. That's why you can't get much power out of it. On a car that has over 300HP stock, any potential gains won't be felt. Given the age of these cars, and the potential problems they likely can have, the money is best spent on maintenance or saving for a future engine rebuild.
Best mods for our cars is a muffler upgrade for the sound. Then just enjoy it for what it is.
While I agree with pretty much all of this, calling the M96 not a performance engine is a bit harsh. It makes better numbers than most contemporary sixes, and its hard to point to any normally aspirated engines that respond to any bolt on mods with more than a handful of extra ponies. Its factory optimized within its cost, economy, and reliability envelope.
Hello,
So I guess you liked the Tune and with the Deman 4.5 ltr as we tune for them also.? Or that you had the tune and was impressed with the larger engine size from 3.6 to the 4.5? After all 900 cc is a big advantage , sorta of like a 2.7 to a 3.4, only better,,,
Thanks,
Scott
Take a look at Motive Video on YouTube. They do a series of "Mythbusted" videos using the 997 3.6 to see improvements using bolt-on parts. Well done videos that pretty much confirm what we all know about minimal improvements for a NA engine using IPD/TB.
As suggested by many of the guys, performance enhancements and durability can effectively be addressed in a rebuild and then some.
