You can do a hard reset by disconnecting both battery terminals and touching them together, then leaving them disconnected over night.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

11 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

0 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I'm not kidding anyone, I'm an analog guy. not a very good one at that either. Then this thing followed me home so I'm keeping it. Don't try to change my mind. I have had my 996 long enough now to get kind of fond of it and justify a check up. Tell me about top 3 things you would look at or whatever.

POST 2Original post

Prob cam deviation, fuel trim and over rev report if you're into that sort of thing

POST 3Original post

Cam dev, fuel trim and actual engine and oil temps compared to analog gauges. So kinda like the cat that follows you home, except way better?

POST 4Original post

Do a full "anylasis log" of all nominal values in the actual value section, then save and print them out for future reference. It will save you from wondering" what should this value be?" when you go back to look at things when a problem occurs. The Porsche PIWIS tester will do a VAL "vehicle analysis log" that is 50 pages long and includes all software versions, part numbers, over revs, actual values, coding specs. ect........ Duramtetric can't do anything near that extensive, but can give all the basic actual values. You should document and save them...

Good ideas, much of it will become more meaningful with time but for now I want to start with the basics. I pulled out some values with the engine off. Range 1 and Range 2 make some sense. 1 is maximum safe rpm limit and there appear to have been many during this engine's previous life. I'm okay with letting the tachometer climb 2 healthy upper limits when an engine is properly warmed up and feel it is likely beneficial periodically.

POST 6 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Single range 2 over Rev. Over 1000 hours ago. Sounds like it got mistreated, maybe someone missed a shift but not too bad considering the unknown nature of its previous Masters and the variability amongst different personalities. I imagine any damage from that event must have been inconsequential in the grand scheme of things.

POST 7 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Are cam deviation and fuel trim done with engine running? Or can you get that from stored information?

POST 8Original post

Quotes source post: 17785227

Single range 2 as in only 1 single revolution? That's meaningless and I wouldn't worry about it. Somewhere there is a Hartech write-up that they ignore low values in range 2. 1 rev is only 8.6ms at 7000rpm. It's not possible for that to be much more than like 1rpm over or something and might just be a random sensor issue. And 1000 hours ago means you're probably fine.

POST 9Original post

its not counting how many times it was overreved. its counting how many times it spun while it was overreved. looks like you're getting some good help already.

POST 10 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Quotes source post: 17785361

yes, the report says 1. I will try to locate the Hartech info. So, top 3 recommended for any review seem to consistently include: 1. Over Revs 2. Cam deviation 3. Fuel trim, maybe look at https://www.renntech.org/topic/37530...trim-readings/ and https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5WnM...ature=youtu.be Then the 50 pages of output values mentioned by PorscheTech above to save for future baseline reference. Do you all recommend a "handover" as referenced by Mr Raby? http://986forum.com/forums/performan...urametric.html "Clearing the codes is always able to make for a quick change in the engine idle and low speed characteristics. This is not a handover. You can do a hard reset by disconnecting both battery terminals and touching them together, then leaving them disconnected over night. This is similar to a handover in its results."

Ha ha, yes Hatchet, it appears that way. Can my Durametric document if my knock sensor has been affecting timing? I found this little tidbit to help me and those who follow with ACTUAL VALUES interpretation. Thanks Hatchet. What else you got? file:///C:/Users/n9185343/Downloads/dme%20actual%20values.pdf
