Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Suggestion

The spray allows it to penetrate well ( into hinge for example), evaporates leaving ptfe to stick to surface, dirt/dust does not stick to it - rated for high pressure - not really needed for this app - just make sure surface is clean before you apply.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

5 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hi, If there is one thing I hate, it's squeaks, rattle, and general NVH issue. The first time I tested my brother's 997 Targa 4S I thought teh squeak coming from the Traga roof was terrible. I also found Volvo C70 coupe cabrio to be very squeaky. So when I teste what would become my own Targa, that squeaked too, I decided not to buy it if I could not fix that issue. So I borrowed my brother's 997 for a long weekend, in order to try out a short trip 4 up (including 2 children) with light luggages (perfect!) and to SOLVE that bloody SQUEAK. Weaponry : 1 spray can of silicon lubricant + 1 spray can of ltihium white grease. The lithium withe grease is for the lateral grooves that guide the Traga roof. Easy and obvious. For the second part, I opted for silicon as it is less messy and greasy. The 2 main targets for the silicon are at the front part of the Targa receptacle (see pictures) : 1) There are 4 sliders : 2 in the middle, and 2 at the extremities. The Targa roof comes and slides against them. Apply silicon on all 4. 2) There are 2 round rubbery foam or foamy rubber pads in the middle : the Targa roof come to a rest against them. I think they are the real culprits in the squeaqy case. Fire silicon at them too. It worked on both Targas. No sqeak from there anymore (but plenty at other places in the dashboard ;-) ). The silicon spray can stays in the glove box at all time! Hope it helps. Let me know if it worked for you. Fabrice

POST 2Original post

Thanks for the write-up, I'm going to give this a try!

POST 3Original post

I'm glad you had some success. But I'd strongly recommend not using silicone spray or white grease or any other sticky-goopy stuff. A dry lubricant spray is easier to apply and longer lasting. Dirt is your enemy here. Sticky lube will trap it like a magnet. And the whole mess will be a big PITA to clean when the (inevitably) gummed up. Just MHO.

POST 5Original post

VW has a special lube for sunroofs based on DuPont krytox (special ptfe) but it is pretty expensive. I've had success with wurth hhs-k spray - no silicone, compatible with rubber and plastics and paint neutral- outstanding noise , vibration and damping properties ... The spray allows it to penetrate well ( into hinge for example), evaporates leaving ptfe to stick to surface, dirt/dust does not stick to it - rated for high pressure - not really needed for this app - just make sure surface is clean before you apply. (It worked amazing well on my sliding patio door and still slides well and is clean a year later - versus a couple of days for wd40 !!
