Suggestion

Unless your car has less than ~25k miles on it you should really consider replacing both fronts so that the are a "matching" pair.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

8 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Were about to do the "gundo/ fister" mod to my C2 and I was poking around under it while I had it in the air. My front driver strut is busted. Everything else looks good. What is the factory replacement equivalent if I did just the 1 strut?

POST 2Original post

Unless your car has less than ~25k miles on it you should really consider replacing both fronts so that the are a "matching" pair.

POST 3Original post

^^^ This^^^^^ struts are pretty cheap and should only take couple hours DIY to replace. Bilstien fairly common and probably available from FLAPS.

POST 4Original post

My car came with H&R springs on it and I believe it's still on the oem struts (2002 C2 w/ 89k miles). They are needing replacement as the car is under damped. I'm sure the lower ride height doesn't help since the oem struts are not designed to operate at the lower ride height. Do the Bilstein Heavy Duty struts work well with H&R springs? I would rather get a decent coilover setup but don't want to really spend that kind of money since the car is just a fun daily. If not the Bilsteins, what would you guys recommend for my application?

POST 5Original post

I've recently swapped a RaW M030 springs and shocks on my car (only rear shocks though) and learned a few things. Stock, non sport shocks are called B4 from Bilstein, they are also THE most expensive ones to buy from them I would suggest eBay or car-part.com to salvage a pair for cheap.

I would get Bilstein Sports since you have H&R springs already.

POST 8Original post

I usually recommend that you replace both the front and the rear at the same time, as they take roughly similar abuse over their lifetime, and the fronts or rears are not likely to be more or less worn than the other ones. As a rule, the shocks should always be replaced in pairs (left and right together). This and some more good info here .
