I did the first at 137,000 (and it had been changed at 134,000 by the P.O.) with M1, which had always been used previously afaik...
Leading evidence: 'Use previously afaik' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Fill of m1 oil without any failures' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

Here is the 996 that went 141k miles on the one fill of M1 oil without any failures.

Car made is 141k without a single oil change, I'd say it was working for you?

What happens if the car fails next week due to you changing the oil to DT40?

Someone on here is gonna harp on you for not following proper procedure and using JG break in oil first before introducing the DT-40 mix to your engine.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

So, I just did my first $300 + oil change...
Let me explain... 1 Case DT40
1 LN Screw on Filter adapter (which has really sharp threads btw), 1 LN magnetic drain plug (which didn't come with a crush washer...pretty lame!)...
Oh well, I think it was worth it! I drove about 100 miles today after doing the change and one thing I noticed fairly quickly, is that the oil pressure is significantly higher. The gauge is showing 3.3 bar at 2500 rpm where before (W/ M1 0W-40) it was about 2.8. The other thing I noticed after a few stops is that there's less timing chain noise on start up. The real test for this will be when it sits over night or for a few days. At one point today, I did stop for a couple hrs. though and there was no chain noise on restart.
Well, this puts all of the BS about M1 oil to rest. Here is the 996 that went 141k miles on the one fill of M1 oil without any failures. True testament to the M1 oil protective qualities.
Why would you switch to something new now though? Car made is 141k without a single oil change, I'd say it was working for you? What happens if the car fails next week due to you changing the oil to DT40? I mean 141k miles probably created a very specific acidic/metallic mix in the oil pan, hence why your car was still running strong and not failing.
/discuss.
Are you guys serious? He said, "I just did my first $300 + oil change", not his first oil change. Maybe you guys are just trolling and I'm oblivious, lol.
Hahahahahah...Funny boyzzzzzz! Yeah, so...this is actually MY SECOND change. I did the first at 137,000 (and it had been changed at 134,000 by the P.O.) with M1, which had always been used previously afaik...
BTW: Nice reading comp. by WynnS123 !
141K trouble free miles is a pretty good indication the oil the engine has been using is doing its job. It is also a sign the car has been taken care of and has received the type of usage that is conducive to a long service life.
Switching oils at this stage seems ill-advised but it is your car.
BTW, the reduction in noise is not due so much to the brand of oil but simply because the oil is fresh. Even with fresh 0w-40 in my cars' engines chain noise upon start up is much reduced compared to what the noise level was prior to the oil change.
Remember the lack of noise now. Then compare it to the noise you hear -- or don't hear -- after say 4K or more miles on the oil you have switched to.
I noticed the same thing (though I think my noise was lifters) on startup. I'm on my second change with DT40 now and still no noise. Hopefully yours will be the same
A) Who said anything about 141,000 "trouble free" miles? Not me!... This being said, I don't have any first hand knowledge otherwise...The service data I do have on the vehicle (mostly carfax, as the dealer refused to release the service records to the previous owner) shows a reasonable record of service practices.
B) Switching oils... Why? Please explain your reasoning
C) I wouldn't think the "brand" would have anything to do with it. I do believe the formulation would though... Also, how would you explain what I would consider a substantial increase in oil pressure?
D) Reasonable enough, I'll definitely be tuned in to changes in engine noises as mileage increases.
Someone on here is gonna harp on you for not following proper procedure and using JG break in oil first before introducing the DT-40 mix to your engine. Now your engine is gonna blow up. Immediately flat bed your car to a flat6 certified shop so they can perform an Enema on it.
Similar results on my 145K 99 c4 with original motor. On its 3rd dt40 oil change with reduced chain noise an almost gone lifter tick. JR supports dt40 due to the additive package is better for flat tapped motors. M1 in the Beemer and the audi, but dt40 for the 996.
Given your history, shouldn't you be asking about the most environmentally friendly oil to use so you are prepared for the next time you leave it all on the side of the road?
I moved our son's seat into the 911 last night so my wife could take him out in it today. After that comment I fully expect a call from Karma to tell me she is stuck on the side of the road with an ever expanding puddle of oil underneath it
Race with joe Gibbs oil for years - the other oil's did nothing to prevent lifter,s
From cracking and in a short time - producing 550 rwhp in a 4 cyl told me this oil can handle any situation
As soon as this new purchased 996 landed at my home - DT40 went in - yes I am a believer
