Suggestion

Never happened to me, anyone else?), then goes on about how 996's are no longer built by hand (when I toured the plant in 2003, there were an awful lot of people pushing the 996's from station to station with an elevator involved from the first to the second floor for every car and bolting parts onto the car- certainly less pure assembly line than the VW, Audi, and Mercedes factories I toured the same week.) Then he states that most any good shop can do a PPI and identify if the bearing has been replaced or needs changing - Really?

The guy wrote an article purporting to explain why the 996 is a great buy - and it is, we know that, however his article certainly could use some corrections.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

4 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

  • Rennlist: 1 discussions

0 evidence records excluded for query context · 0 excluded by outcome qualification · 0 adjusted by outcome qualification.

0 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 2Original post

Good read! Doubt it will be enough to combat the internet-driven paranoia. Nonetheless, savvy buyers will end up being the winners

POST 3Original post

Interesting, maybe I'm a glass half-empty kind of guy - when I read this last night I thought it was more negative or at best damning the car with faint praise. The "author" first quotes a guy who talks about how the interior sucks so bad that buttons fall off the 996's dash (really? Never happened to me, anyone else?), then goes on about how 996's are no longer built by hand (when I toured the plant in 2003, there were an awful lot of people pushing the 996's from station to station with an elevator involved from the first to the second floor for every car and bolting parts onto the car- certainly less pure assembly line than the VW, Audi, and Mercedes factories I toured the same week.) Then he states that most any good shop can do a PPI and identify if the bearing has been replaced or needs changing - Really? Which shops are routinely dropping the engine to inspect the bearing for the average $400 PPI? None that I've seen. The guy wrote an article purporting to explain why the 996 is a great buy - and it is, we know that, however his article certainly could use some corrections. I'll bet some of the "real" writers at the old Road and Track are saying WTF is up with this dude...

^+1 Agree 996 is a great sports car though.

This is a source reference. Confirm exact model applicability in the original material.
