Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

The AOS was leaking coolant so the parts and repair costs were over $2K.

He quoted me less than half of what you are saying and that includes also replacing the belt.

I would replace all of the hoses that connect to the AOS, and all the vacuum lines that run to the reservoir near the AOS while you're in there.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

The Porsche part is $140 on pelican and maybe cheaper at a Porsche dealership. I got the original oil drain plug and two washers from Porsche for less than $10. My question to you guys is how much should it cost labor wise to replace the AOS, also I heard about UAOS, where can I get this and how much should it cost. My AOS is currently working but may have started developing low coolant leak.
Do a quick search for UAOS, or go directly to his new
website
. Porschetech3 (Skip) is your man! HIs kit comes with a new AOS and eliminates the need to ever do that nasty job again.
The std one is on back order. Anyway, as of right now mine is working, its just something that may need attention in the future. Right now I need to concentrate on a few things with the car. I got a bent wheel, need to see if I can get the radio to come up. Need to do a state inspection, first oil change with oil analysis and pay sales taxes and register the car.
My 2004 996 developed low coolant warning with leaking coolant. For fear of overheating I took to Porsche for diagnosis. The AOS was leaking coolant so the parts and repair costs were over $2K. /X3
Thanks. I already knew. I took my car to a local shop in here in Texas I just wanted to check them out. Anyway The shop manager talked to me and even put the car on the lift. We found out I have original engine, engine number match. He said that the car is straight no accidents, he basically did an inspection for me and introduced me two of the mechanics. Anyway thats how we saw the calcification on the AOS. He also told me I have a bent wheel and told me where to take it. I was right there with him when he was pointing The issues or findings. Anyway he gave me his business card , no charge. This shop specializes in preparing race cars. They have a race prep 996 3.8 strip, roll cage and all the goodies, including ln nickies. He quoted me less than half of what you are saying and that includes also replacing the belt. Is old but no much wear. I was just saying that sometimes the Porsche dealership will have a good price on parts. No the dealer will never touch this car.
The labor will also vary depending on the year of your car and whether it's a manual or a tip. .2 with a tip is the worst. Ask me how i know..... It can be done with the engine in the car, just lowered at the engine mounts. If you are going to replace the AOS, you really should buy the UAOS for the long term benefits for minimal extra $.
I think most places will charge around 6 hours labor for AOS R&R.
You're looking at about $800 for labor costs with the Houston area Indy rates.
Looks like the factory AOS cost is cheaper than I remembered.
I would replace all of the hoses that connect to the AOS, and all the vacuum lines that run to the reservoir near the AOS while you're in there.
You can always send a PM to Skip about UAOS cost/availability:
@Porschetech3
Hope to catch up with you this Saturday.(I'm still planning on going)

I already sent a message to skip. Regarding rates you need to shop. Ie one Porsche dealership told me $7800 for a short block the other one
$$8267, same part same supplier same VIN number.
Yep, I've found that buying parts online from dealers (not just Porsche) is cheaper than going to the parts department directly.
I had an account under my shop's name at the local Honda dealer.
I bought a new fuse box for $200 less by buying online versus visiting them directly with a resellers account.
I was able to pick it up the same day even!
