I wonder if the engine was replaced before it was resold?

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

After a branded title 4s sells for $42,500 after fees, someone comments:
"The 996 has surely entered the air cooled pricing world"
Naw! Got to add $20k more to get to some of those lawnmower engine cars prices! However, my kids are smiling even wider at that price. What's up with that funky little spoiler on the back? Is that a Europe thing?
I'll start smiling when the lowly C2 Cab starts getting to that range. May be a while...
I think someone here had this wing on their car when they bought it. From TechArt??? I found it in a brochure online some time ago, but can't find it now. Maybe obsolete.
I had that little wing on my car when I bought it.
It is a TechArt (or TechArt style) piece.
First thing I replaced and its hanging on the garage wall now.
Thats a crazy price for a branded title 996.
But I think it does show that low mileage is THE determining factor.
Wow - personally I find that selling price quite impressive. It's really a base 4S with the one big thing going for it being the low mileage. Still with stock IMS too! Can't wait to see where the market heads for the 40th anniversary cars with current prices trading in mid to high 30k.
I'm afraid someone way overpaid for this car.
Obviously, it had some serious engine trouble for the dealership to buy it back. I wonder if the engine was replaced before it was resold?
However, the thing that stood out to me is the buckled front hood. (see arrows noting gap) These hoods sit perfectly flush from the factory. This one was in a front-end collision that didn't make it to CarFax.
The tell-tale sign is the gap that gets wider coming down from the left side of the car. More than likely it was hit in the corner and the body shop wasn't able to correct for the hood. Many people will opt to not replace the original hoods because the replacement ones will not have the original option sticker or other factory stickers. They will be plain.
I know it's a lemon, which I guess is better than a total loss due to an accident but that seems high. Feel like nobody should have paid more 2/3 value of it with a clean title.
The hood is a bit concerning and I hope for the buyer's case, it wasn't in a wreck. I find it concerning that you guys think cars just can't be fixed. Dealership took back and fixed, I don't get the problem. Did it say the number of miles since fixed?
As far as air cooled prices, l believe driver's coupe SC's and later Targa's are in the 30's, low 40's. Oh 914's
Gotch ya.
BaT pricing is crazy. Good place to sell, not buy unless money is not an issue IMO. I enjoy it because it provides me false hope on the value of my car.
Look at the photos in the listing, #180 and after show serious frunk lid damage, plus this car doesn't have sports exhaust and yet commanded a premium price.
I sort of see the value in BaT and why cars fetch a premium there. Just look through some for sale postings out there. Even on PCA. People do a horrible job presenting their cars and put very little effort. This sort of half assed presentation will not net you a lot of money. Put in some effort and not only can you ask for more but also makes the potential buyer feel like you've put in the effort and hopefully same sort of effort went into maintaining the car.
I followed this sort of logic and just sold my beloved Lexus GS350 for good money. I essentially ate $500 in depreciation per year after 3 years. If you're looking for your first 911, whether you're educated on the platform or not, and come to a place like BaT, you're more likely to find a decent description, many detailed photos and service records rather than "runs good, no accidents, needs nothing". To some buyers out there a positive buying experience is worth a premium.
You mean like the classic Craigslist Ad:
2002 Porsche 911 Carrera C2 coupe convertible with AWD Manual Tiptronic.
Lots of tread on tire. Don't ask about IMS. If you do your stupid. Don't ask to test drive unless you have $25,000 in cash with you.(no big bills)
your not coming to my house we must meet behind the walmart or near the old metal foundry.
Price firm. Dont waist my time I know what I gots.
Heres pictures:
Craigslist, Facebook Marketplace, etc. Take your pick! Selling a car privately can be frustrating and so can purchasing and ads like the above example are unfortunately too common.
I'd sell mine on BAT, think that would be the best opportunity to get the most out of it.
Hell there's a cab with some goofy vinyl stripes on there right now already at $30k.
Thanks!
Unfortunately I don't see it being for sale any time soon, every time it hits the road it's like re-living the first day driving it home. The 996 really is an amazing platform and it seems people are starting to realize that.
