There is no cure, no new wire harness, only to purchase new lights or manually replace the wiring by cutting and splicing in new wires.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hello today I took my 996 C4S to be inspected and it failed due to "significant difference between left and right high beam light intensity". Both light bulbs are brand new, and I don't understand the reason for this difference (about 60% dif). I suspect it is an electrical issue. I don't know how to diagnose this by my self. Can some one help me on this? Thanks Pedro

POST 2Original post

Headlight leveling not working on one of the headlights? Durametric can move them both so you can test them. http://www.durametric.com/

POST 3Original post

On our 20 year old cars, if you pull the headlights out (which it seems you did to replace the bulbs), carefully inspect the wiring and in particular the insulation. You will find most of it deteriorating, broken, and you can just break it off the wires. There is no cure, no new wire harness, only to purchase new lights or manually replace the wiring by cutting and splicing in new wires. Sorry about that. New headlights run about $800/each and I've heard are uber-unobtanium. Might check LA Dismantlers first.

POST 4Original post

Would suggest before you get too deep into troubleshooting, if the difference is visible, you might try swamping the two bulbs to see if the problem follows. Inspect the bulb sockets while you are working on it, you may just have a bad bulb or a corroded / misaligned socket.

I will ask the obvious. Which headlights do u have?

could be the 'chrome' in the one projector is bad...more likely the shutter isn't opening or the bulb isn't inserted/installed correct/all the way into projector
