Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

40 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

Great idea doing it with the tape, but still not liking that look.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I was thinking about putting blue 911R stripes on my Arctic Silver 996. Any one here done that or seen that. I asked a vendor about color samples and he said he didn't think they would look good on a 996, would have to be too close together, not sure I agree. Opinions? porsche-911-stripes-2048x2048.jpg

POST 2Original post

Who cares what the vendor thinks? It's your car! Photoshop it or google image. Do what YOU like!

POST 3Original post

This style might look better? But HawkFan is right, either way!

POST 4Original post

I think blue would be fine as long as it's dark enough. The only difference with the 996 might be where the stripes meet the nose might hit the lights, so you might want to mock that up and figure out exactly where they would end. I just added the PORSCHE side stripes to my C4S and I'm very happy with the look of those.

POST 5 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks for all the comments. I plan to draw one up as suggested but have yet to find a good top view picture of a 996. A darker blue rather than a lighter would be better. I realize the stripes might have to be closer together than the picture above because of the lights but I think it still should be good. I originally planed to put on grey side stripes but recently I got this double blue strip in my head. Was hoping someone had already done it so I could see what it looks like. I have also considered the single strip.

POST 6Original post

FWIW, blue stripes on silver is a very common Viper color scheme, and it works well

POST 8Original post

I am doing stripes on mine. Will post pics tomorrow when done.

POST 10Original post

Personally, I like the Viper double stripe, and the single wide center stripe with narrow side stripes in Woody's pic, but I don't like those narrow widely-spaced stripes at all. Looks like suspenders to me.

POST 12Original post

A couple pix I found (even ignoring the silly floral pattern on the first one, I think the narrow stripes look poor):

POST 17 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I like the stripes wide apart on the 911R but not sure yet on the 996, something about the front being squared off instead of rounded/slanted.

POST 18Original post

Not diggin the hood/roof stripes. How about side decals a la..

POST 19 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I might go back to my original plan of grey side decals

I too like the idea/ curious of 911r stripes on our 996. This was just fooling around with painters tape one night a while back, the color is not what I would choose (I would do matte black) but I thought it looked neat. I can't wait to see your's done officially!

POST 27Original post

I apparently did not take any very good pictures when I did this lol found this other one though

POST 28Original post

If I were to put stripes like that on to mimic the 911R, I'd want to have it done as a full car wrap. That way you could round out the headlights and put the stipe in the same configuration along the car's other natural lines. And get the same side skirt decals at the same time... And when it loses it's luster... off comes the wrap.

POST 29Original post

I found this old thread because I'm thinking about adding "R" stripes to my 996. I agree that the mock-ups in this thread with the wide stripes don't look great - I think that's because they're just straight stripes. Part of what makes the R stripes work on the 991 is that the stripes are wider toward the middle of the car, and the outside edges are curved to match the contours of the body. If you did the same for the stripes on the 996 they would look a lot better. I did a quick rendering of how they might look in the OP's silver and blue color scheme. Now I just need to find out if Renndecals or someone else can produce these in the right size.

POST 30Original post

And I think these would look even better in a more subtle color combination. My car is black, and I'm considering charcoal gray stripes. I don't have a good photo of a black car to use, but heres a gray on silver rendering.

POST 31Original post

I like the more subtle look with less contrasting stripes.

i was not a fan of this idea on a 996 until i saw the silver gray combo. looks great!!

POST 35Original post

I would make the last 2' of the stripe coming down curve to leave about another 15MM between the stripe and the edge of the hood.. just to play in to the headlong line that's already there..

POST 38Original post

Nope. Btw... Aren't stripes supposed to mean something? Like I own a "R"?

POST 39Original post

Using the same method as BusyDadsWorkshop, I crafted these stripes on my 99' 996.1 ( You Tube ). I also considered the "R-type" stripes but thought the way the hood narrows was a bit off. The GT2-style made it stand out a bit. It took about 4-5 hours and $100 in materials but it was a fun project. Heck, if I don't like the color or want to take it off, it's an easy peel. I added the 1/4" inside pinstripe to hide some not perfectly straight lines. Ray (Santa Clara, CA)

I'm not a fan of stripes, but for some reason, I think these look good on your .1
