Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

I am go in garage Porsche and the problem is a sensor on the gas tank , a sensor only for the US model and this sensor is welded on the tank ( not screwed) and the french solution is replacement of the tank 1720$
Leading evidence: 'sensor' (1 discussions report identifying this cause; no attributable repair resolution). Across 1 matching discussions, the most frequently mentioned possible cause is 'sensor' (1 discussions; 1 report identifying it and 0 suggest it). The most frequently discussed action is 'Check will go out or i must go' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

If it's a evap system fault and the problem is corrected, the check engine light should turn off automatically after a few drive cycles with no more faults detected.

an other question: if I find the problem and change the equipment, the witness check will go out or I must go to Porsche for a reset

These are separate views of the same evidence. Frequency alone does not establish a fix, and these counts must not be added together.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hello
I live in France and I have a Porsche 996 (year 2003)
my car went of Floride , she is in France from 2010
but I have a problem the witness check is always alight and the message for to go to the garage. I am go in garage Porsche and the problem is a sensor on the gas tank , a sensor only for the US model and this sensor is welded on the tank ( not screwed) and the french solution is replacement of the tank 1720$
they can't cancel this anomaly
My question: do you know where this captor is situated on the gas tank and what are the colors of the electric cable
Thank you and excuse me for my american writing
Good road for you
Maybe the fuel vapor recovery system is the problem? There are two common problems that can cause symptoms like you describe, both are electrically controlled vacuum valves.
One is by the tank filler neck:

The other is called Regeneration Valve it is by the alternator in the engine compartment.
It is the more common problem.

There's also part #21 here
http://www.autoatlanta.com/porsche-p...section=201-00
It will help if you can ask the shop for the part number of the part in question.
Would a RoW reflash eliminate this issue if the problem component is US-only? If so, that might be less expensive than running down parts.
Can anyone else with more knowledge of reflashing weigh in here?
@ 5CHN3LL: I don't undersdand all your message :-(
but I have find the regeneration valve , in france we have this generation valve and the fuel line vent valve
but we don't have the valve 21 whose Ahsai speak, and if the problems are come of these parts , the data processing system of Porsche would have recognised these defects I think that the problem comes of this parts
Thanks of yours next ideas
Le logiciel de la voiture est le rapport des dtails pas ncessaire en France . Je posais les autres membres en cas de changement du logiciel une version non - US liminerait le problme sans avoir remplacer les pices .
Sorry for the terrible French - the best I could do with a year in college and Google Translate.
Part 21 is the only valve that appears to attach to the gas tank. It's inserted into part 20, a foam piece that's attached to the gas tank.
Sounds like your check engine light (witness) is ON. Can you use a scanner to retrieve the actual error codes? Those may give us more clues.
yes, but in France at Porsche they have only a european version (grrrrrrrrrrrrrrr, in France it's the economic crisis
) if you invites me with my car in USA for delete this default I went
driving with the witness check it is not a problem but I think about an other default arrived I don't see the new warning
If it's a evap system fault and the problem is corrected, the check engine light should turn off automatically after a few drive cycles with no more faults detected.
Durametric is great but you can also try a generic OBDII scanner (much cheaper) and see what codes you can retrieve.

Bruno,
Assuming you have a Smart Phone, try this to clear the code:
Super Mini ELM327 V1.5 OBD2 OBD-II Bluetooth CAN-BUS
You can find it on Amazon.com and other online sites.
Ahsai recommended it to me, and it works great. Less than $10 US.
Here's a link to a thread with more info:

EDIT: Was too slow typing. Ahsai's link is for that same one.
Yes, definitely get a Bluetooth version if you use an Android phone. If you use an iphone, ipad, etc you need to get the wifi version (the one in the link I sent). The wifi version also works on Android phones too.
