Read evidence and context
Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.
Discussions that report identifying a cause
1
0 original-poster resolution reports. Counts can overlap; they are not unique people or a success rate.
0 discussions have direct query context; 0 report a fix in that context. Other evidence may inherit the discussion’s subject.
Reported cause
This is due to the oil filling the voids between the rings and cylinders.
Leading evidence: 'oil filling the voids between the rings and cylinders' (1 discussions report identifying this cause; no attributable repair resolution). Across 1 matching discussions, the most frequently mentioned possible cause is 'oil filling the voids between the rings and cylinders' (1 discussions; 1 report identifying it and 0 suggest it). The most frequently discussed action is 'Fill voids between the rings and cylinders' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

Suggestion
Due to this the cylinders that test the best are often the problematic cylinders.

Suggestion
This makes a compression or a leak down test a waste of time with these engines that do have scoring.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.
20 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

1 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

Get it fixed correctly, maintain it the right way and never worry about it again.
That definitely sounds like piston slap associated with bore scoring. Need to confirm with a bore scope. Watch part 4 of Jake Rabys series on the subject.
To me the second recording with the belt back on and the car not still on fast idle from a cold start sounds so much like my car did at a point during the progression of the disease.
Nope. Bore scoring will boost compression values all the way till stage 4. This is due to the oil filling the voids between the rings and cylinders. This makes a compression or a leak down test a waste of time with these engines that do have scoring.
I see cars all the time that pass both tests, and have confirmed scoring. Due to this the cylinders that test the best are often the problematic cylinders.
Visual inspection is the only way to conclusively determine scoring, and severity of the scoring.

Mine started making a similar noise within the last week. However, its only at start up and lasts about 1-2min, then goes away until the next cold start.
May be time to go down the rabbit hole of flat6 vids
