Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

I know to keep my drains clear and cleaned them out a few months ago, but like I said the car does stay garaged and really the only water it ever sees is when I wash it and I always check inside for water afterwards to be safe.
Leading evidence: 'Replace yea i think it' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). My 99 C2 key fob died over 10 years ago, so I use the mechanical key to unlock.

Suggestion
After 7 days of no use the alarm goes to sleep to save the car battery charge.
These are separate views of the same evidence. Frequency alone does not establish a fix, and these counts must not be added together.

if you use your key to unlock the doors, it will unlock the driver's door only, and then you need to turn the ignition key to the on position to disarm the alarm.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I have an issue with my central locking system and not sure where to begin to troubleshoot. I am not really familiar with the system. The key fob stopped working altogether. I tried the process I found online to re-sync it with the car with no luck. If I lock the car with the key, it will unlock and immediately set the alarm off every time until I put the key in the ignition and turn the key. The passenger door also does not unlock unless I get in and manually pull the handle from the inside. It will open fine from outside once the car is unlocked and has been opened wit the method I just mentioned. Can anyone point me in the right direction on where to start my troubleshooting or what parts I may have to replace? Thanks
i hade the same issue when both remotes stopped working for no apparent reason.
in my case there was no damage to the BCM, it just decided to “forget” the remotes.
there are few ways to resolve this, but for me the most reasonable solution was to take it to the “ECU Doctor”.
you might need to include the ECM and provide him with the IPAS codes.

edit:
BCM is located under the driver seat.
ECU is located under the rear shelf.
IPAS codes can be obtained from your local dealership (if they are nice enough).
After 7 days of no use the alarm goes to sleep to save the car battery charge. There is a specific proceedure for unlocking with the key and hitting the button to wake it up. I dont remember exactly but im sure someone chime in with the specifics.
Then make sure the carpet isnt wet. If u have coupe the sunroof drains get cloged and it causes water to accumulate under the seat. If this is the case the module will have to be sent out for repair.
Sorry, my daughter was crying so I answered quickly. The carpet is dry at present. I reached under the seats just last night looking for my key when I picked the car up for service for something unrelated. I know to keep my drains clear and cleaned them out a few months ago, but like I said the car does stay garaged and really the only water it ever sees is when I wash it and I always check inside for water afterwards to be safe.
Nine times out of ten the remote key internal circuit board goes bad and the fob does not work. You didn't give us much to go on (year/make/model/age/other work that has been done) but a 20 year old key fob probably died. The reason the opening/unlocking sequence sets off the alarm is because the the car immobilizer needs to read the passive RFID pill in the key, and it does that from the ignition key surround. Otherwise the car thinks it is being stolen.
Sorry, didn't think to give vehicle specifics with it being in the 996 group. It is a '93 C4 Cab, 6speed. Thanks for the explanation on the alarm going off issue/potential cause.
yes.
that's the way it works even when everything is OK.
if you use your key to unlock the doors, it will unlock the driver's door only, and then you need to turn the ignition key to the on position to disarm the alarm.
when not using the remote, the passenger door can be opened by pressing the unlock button in the dash, or pulling the handle from the inside.
and i believe you own a 03 C4 ?
Huh. My 99 C2 key fob died over 10 years ago, so I use the mechanical key to unlock. Insert key in door handle lock, turn, and both driver and passenger door both unlock. I do not have any alarm sounding and after doing this, I can walk away from the car without ever inserting the key in the ignition. New change for an 03? Don't know.
Yea i think it was changed. I had to use my key for my 3.4l mk1 set up. The mk2 gt3 stuff requires the key inserted into the ignitiin after unlocking. Its anoying.
Same for my 02 C2. If the car alarm was engaged via the key FOB and I unlock the car by key in the door lock, the alarm will go off in about 10 seconds unless I insert the key into the ignition and turn it on (not start, but just on). If I don't turn the key fast enough the alarm will go off.
. Sorry, was either a typo or another bad autocorrect. The phone has gotten so bad at autocorrect now I constantly have errors in what I type that I don't catch. It's a 2003
