Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Sorry if this has been discussed (and I suspect it has) but a search for narrowbody rims resulted in a a ton of threads which I did look in, but didn't find an answer to my question. I have an early 99 C2 narowbody with the factory 18" turbo-twist 993-style rims. A local guy has for sale a set of 4 rims, I think from a 997 or maybe a 996 4S. 235/35R19 (19x8 .5; offset 54; 5X130) 295/30R19 (19x11; offset 51; 5X130) Are those going to fit 996 C2 narrowbody without sticking out crazy far?

POST 2Original post

The backs will stick out with the 11" rims with ET51 offset. The normal offset for 18" is ET65. That being said, many people put 11" rear wheels on narrowbody cars by mounting tires with slightly lower tire sizes. The tires sizes you have listed (i.e. 235/35R19 & 295/30R19) are correct. Bear in mind, that you may also experience scrubbing on the front wheels and since the '99 doesn't have rolled fenders, you may have problems with the rear fender cutting into the tires.

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

OK, I really appreciate the reply. I think I'll pass on them.

POST 4Original post

At 11" the rears wont work since the that adds 12.7mm to each side plus another 12mm since the standard offset is 63mm which means your stick out about 24.7mm or about 1 Inch more than stock. To get an idea how much a non lowered car would stick out look at post #52 at https://rennlist.com/forums/996-foru...uestion-4.html . The picture in the thread represents about 17.7mm so these wheels will even be worse and may even have interference. Others may have a different thought.

POST 5Original post

Ah...nutty beat me to it...I think passing is the right decision

IMHO, you're a smart man. If you're lucky enough to have the 993 turbo twists, then I'd count my blessings. Those are some awesome wheels, especially if you have the super rare hollow spoke.

POST 7Original post

A related size fitment question: Given 18" diameter, will 8.5" fronts w/ET40, and 11" rears w/ ET63 fit an '02 NB 996? The wheels are 6GT3 sizes, I believe. Thanks.

POST 8Original post

Absolutely...if it fits my MK1 then it should fit MK2. It just looks better lowered though.

POST 9Original post

Somebody test fitted 7.1 GT3 wheels on a nb. They fit with some negative camber. Theyre 19x12 +68. So, will 19x11 +51 fit? As long as youre okay with some camber, yes. With factory Carrera camber? No. edit* found the post from which I took this information on another forum: So a +51 offset would obviously require a lot more than 2 degrees of negative camber.

Just did this to my NB 996 C2 - yes MK2 6GT3 wheels fit perfectly - don't use 5mm spacers though like I tried to though - the rear stick out of the guard too much.

POST 11Original post

Quotes source posts: 15515134, 15519996

+1. The 6GT3 wheels fit the carerra like a glove. Makes sense since the 6GT3 is a narrow body chassis.

Offset is purrrrrfect but but not looking forward to the carnage it's going to do to my paintwork haha

POST 13Original post

I dont think you need to worry about paint damage. Ive never noticed any on my car with the same rims.

POST 14Original post

Quotes source post: 15520078

Thanks, maybe it's just where I drive! I do a fair few forum drives and noticed even with the 5mm factory spacers I was getting rock chips down the sides

POST 15Original post

Just as a frame of refference this is my car with hollow spoke twists at the gt3' et63 offset with 295s and 2.5* of camber. It also has about 1.5" of drop and rolled fenders since its an mk1.

POST 16Original post

Jumping back on this retro thread. I am looking to make the transition to 19s on my car. I dont track, just joy ride a bit. Im looking to get a pair of less flashy wheels on my 40AE. Currently running the 40AE wheels at 18x8 et 50 up front, 18x10 et 65 in the back. Wheels Im interested in are 997 15 spoke sport designs which run 19x9 et 57 up front and 19x11 et 67 in the back. Lots of mixed opinions on these threads and just looking to see if anyone has had success with this set up. Thanks, M

POST 17Original post

Yes. 8” up front with 15mm spacer. The 8.5” also works but a 235 tire may looked pinched. Have not heard of that wheel in a 9”. Heavier than your 18s, and you can tell when you jump on the gas.

Thanks. I believe the seller misquoted the front wheel width. Your comments made me double check the images, thank you. Your set up looks great. What are your specs on tires and have you adjusted suspension. Thanks for your insight, very much appreciated.
