Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Leading evidence: 'Install on my car' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, the most frequently mentioned possible cause is 'bit preoccupied' (1 discussions; 0 report identifying it and 1 suggest it). The most frequently discussed action is 'Install on my car' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

KW is probably a bit preoccupied to get to their email right away.

I am being impatient so I thought I would see if anyone happened to have a set sitting around that could take some good close up pictures for me and post them here.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Do any of you have a set of KW V3 coil overs sitting on the shelf? I recently bought a set and had the dampers rebuilt at KW. After getting those back I am trying to reassemble the coil overs and I believe I am missing some pieces. I am in contact with KW and have sent them pictures of what I have but I haven't heard from them in a couple days. I've asked them for an update but still haven't gotten a reply. I am being impatient so I thought I would see if anyone happened to have a set sitting around that could take some good close up pictures for me and post them here. I believe I am missing the "support disks" and maybe a couple other small pieces. My car is a C4 so my KW V3's are the ones for any AWD 996. If you can help me out, please let me know. Below are pics of the front and rear parts that have laid out as I believe they should go together. The last is a picture of two different kinds of washers that I am not sure if they are meant to be with this kit or not. I have two of each.
Thanks in advance
Thanks for the pic! Any chance you'd be willing to partially disassemble that to the bump stop and show me all the pieces? It looks like there is a concave thick washer in there above the bump stop which I don't have. I believe that is what they call "support disks" in the online installation guide.
Rebuild is standard $180 per corner. I added some extras for a total of right at $1000. I'm pretty close to half the cheapest price I've found on these new anywhere. I just want to collect these last few parts so I can get them on the car.
Sorry, the parts are on the car now... that pic is prior to installation. Wasn’t sure exactly what you needed.
The rebuild price seems pretty reasonable, might have to consider that in the future.
I gotcha. Yeah, I am pretty certain I need those gold support disks. I am just wanting to see if there is anything else in there hidden. I feel l like I could find some parts locally to do the job but I prefer to do it the KW intended. Hopefully they will get back to me soon. Throughout the entire rebuild process, the customer service has been great and I thought the prices were pretty reasonable. I know they are working odd shifts due to Covid so maybe the tech assigned to my help request just hasn't been back into work. But I'd really like to get started on this project next week. So we'll see.
^^^ I would think feel/performance wise they're very similar as they're both at or around similar price points and they're both highly adjustable (height, compression and rebound). They've also both got great reputations/reviews. So as not to quote opinions, unless it's a direct apples to apples/spec to spec comparison, I'd chalk any big differences up to "this is what I bought, so it's got to be the best" type of internet bs...
cccampbe - On the front struts, you definitely need the top spring retainer (gold support disks) - that's the piece the spring sits in when it's up against the top mount/camber plate. Otherwise it looks like you've got everything you need... Good luck
I have the spring retainers. There are disks or washers right under the spring retainers as shown in the pic from the install instructions. I am missing those. But also possibly some smaller pieces that I can't see in those pictures.
Ok, so it's the 2 "washers" that you're asking about?
^^^ These? Those are already on your existing struts. You'll just take them off and re-use them with the KW's...
Those two washers in my hands are much smaller than the ones in the pictures from the install instructions. The instructions say that the washer on top of the shock mounts come from my existing struts but the ones on the bottom are "supplied". Maybe the ones I have are good enough and what I am supposed to have. I just don't know for sure and since they are so much smaller I wanted to make sure before I trust them to do the job. For all I know, they are some random washers the previous owner had laying around and put on there.
Well, I'll be derned, there is one on the front for sure. It looks like the hole diameter may be too large though. The damper shaft on the factory struts looks a good bit thicker than the KW shaft. I couldn't see one in there rear. I wish KW would just say, "you have what you need", or "you don't have what you need, give us this much $$ and we'll send you the parts". I don't want to get my car suspensionless and then have to leave it like that to sort this out or have to put the stock stuff back in.
Yup, it's always one of the major problems when doing this kind of work - you don't know exactly what you've got or need until you start taking things apart! Good luck
To follow up on this. Dporto was correct. The factory struts had support disks that would have worked. I still ordered them from KW and waited a month for them to come from Germany before I got started on the install. But that was unnecessary I believe. The factory support disks look very close to the size and shape of the KW disks.
I am partially done with the install. I've got the front end complete minus torquing a couple of things. So far, this has been really a very simple install. The 996 seems well thought out and it is a joy to work on in my opinion. I can't wait to get the rear done and get it on the ground.
Support Disks aka washers
The rears are quicker/easier than the fronts! Youre going to love it. The KW V3s are super nice, and impressive in their ability to absorb bumps while still providing tight precise handling characteristics. The trick is dialing them in - I think a common mistake is to set them too firm for street use. I started in the middle for compression (9 clicks) and rebound (around 7 I think) and have gone 1 click softer on the rebound (so far). I like it where it is, and the car handles amazingly. This being said, I may still go 1 click softer on each, and see how that feels (Ive been driving it for about 2 or three weeks like it is - 5-600 miles). Good Luck
