To get to the point, would this FSI 4.0L Track Performer II swap over into my '02 C4S and use all the ancillary items (water, fuel, oil, etc...)?

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hi - Is a 997 engine compatible with 996 components? To get to the point, would this FSI 4.0L Track Performer II swap over into my '02 C4S and use all the ancillary items (water, fuel, oil, etc...)? This is the engine for sale: https://rennlist.com/forums/market/1192242

POST 2Original post

The short answer is, no, it won't drop in and run without more extensive work.

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Sorry - I was in a hurry and didn't do a pre-post search. I just found this: " You can install a 997 3.8l engine in your 996 3.6l. There are a few modifications required like: vacuum hoses, vacuum lines, air pump, ecu reprogramming. All of those add up on top of the engine cost and labor, plus you have to find someone who knows how to do this right." from MBMotorsports about 5 years ago. Does anyone have first hand experience doing this?

POST 4Original post

Check with member lowpue . I believe he put a 997 into a 996.

POST 5Original post

By the time you're done with all the stuff you need to make it work in your 996, you may not be that far off a new one from FSI in terms of price.

I think you're right. But i think his went into a 996.1. Personally, I wouldn't do it. FSI would be the better option. I've seen a post by an extremely knowledgeable person with M96s advise to only deal with engines of the same year as the car. Porsche aren't like Hondas or Nissans. They often change this within a year or two of production.

You can contact Dundon Motorsports. They've done several swaps and know whats involved...as well as the costs... Mike

I know. I mean an FSI build on a 2002 M96. You will be shocked at how quickly the price will increase by trying to get that M97 to work properly.

POST 10Original post

My first choice would be to have FSI rebuild your existing M96. Jake doesn’t do swaps due to potential issues. If he won’t do it, I wouldn’t suggest it. I would only consider doing it if Dundon would do the swap since they’ve proven they can successfully do it.
