Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

7 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

  • Rennlist: 1 discussions

0 evidence records excluded for query context · 0 excluded by outcome qualification · 0 adjusted by outcome qualification.

0 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hello, My gearbox bearings are going and the whining noise went now to a bit "grinding" noise. I have a M96.3 gearbox (Manual Carrera 4, 2000 MY) and was wondering if it is possible to put a Carrera 4 or 4S transmission from the later, 3.6, Models in my car without any additional modifications. Reason for this is that reconditioning my own Transmission will be about 2500 to 3000 EUR but I could get a already reconditioned transmission from a 2003 4S model for around 1.8k.

POST 3Original post

I'm interested in getting a solid answer as well. I asked in another thread about a 997 transmission in my 996. The 997.1 year transmissions will apparently work in our 996, but not the 997.2's. Based on this I would assume the 996.2 will fit a 996.1

POST 5Original post

I would like to know this as well, mine sounds like it has straight cut gears.

POST 7Original post

I think it is compatible... I had a 997.1 3.8 engine working with a 996.1 transmission on my 2000 C2. So I imagine the reverse should work as well. The only thing I am not sure about is if the same is true with a C4. Eventually I swapped out the 996 tranny for a 997.1 tranny when the clutch started slipping so and we were going to upgrade the clutch and I felt that while you were in there....well you know the rest of the story
