Read evidence and context
Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Just check the sumps for weird stuff but you should be fine

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

hello, i'm new, I just buy a 996 c2 year 2000 aero kit.
I just change the oil on my 996.
and I have checked the status of the oil filter....
there are a few small fragments of metal :
links pictures :
do you think that? IMS BEARING failure ??? engine in the process of die ???
sorry my bad english...
many thanks for your responses
stef
Doesn't look particularly scary. But that's just my opinion.
Are any of the metal bits ferrous? I'm thinking of what appears to be some bits of metal a few folds away from the shiny piece of metal (alum) in the first pic.
^Agreed. Not particularly scary. I just added the LN filter adapter and use the FilterMag now. It will lock all that mess into the filter and keep it there.
doesn't look bad at all. I get bits like that every now and then. If its not ferrous, then its alu which can shed for the life of the engine, nothing to worry about. Just bits from the original machining of the motor.
Next time change the oil, drop the sump plate to make sure there are no goodies in there.
thanks you very much has all
the pieces are not magnetic
it looks like the aluminum...
I'll drive 2000 km and
and I will remove the oil filter al for a new control...
a small photo of my new toy :
Another paranoid new 996 owner. Look what we have created....but some solid advice so far ! If this thread ends here I'll be happy.
06stef.....get out there and drive it.!
Gongrats, I love the aero..
I had a similar filter - pulled every piece out and taped them to a piece of paper and took it to the dealer for a verdict. It was carbon buildup and various metal parts from the original build and nothing to do with serious engine parts.
hello the news :
I have traveled 5,000 km from this post.
I installed a Magnetic Oil Drain Plug.
this morning check up : Magnetic Oil Drain Plug remove : RAS
remove oil filter : some littles flake aluminum (no magnet) on the filter.
I monitor this problem and i drive lot of fun with this 996
next change oil in 5000 km ...
