The local dealer's service manager said that the Macan uses a combination of tried-and-tested components from the Audi Q5 and the Cayenne (in less palatable words, "assembled from the corporate parts bin").

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Wifey's SUV (ML 500) is due for an upgrade and I'm thinking about the new Macan so we will have an all-Porsche garage. What is your opinion about the new Macan? Thanks!
I think it's a great mid-sized(?) SUV that will fit four adults comfortably.
The local dealer's service manager said that the Macan uses a combination of tried-and-tested components from the Audi Q5 and the Cayenne (in less palatable words, "assembled from the corporate parts bin"). Less of the cutting edge technology than when the Cayenne was launched, so he was looking forward to less issues for himself and his staff.
I had the privilege of test-driving a Macan Turbo in Leipzig earlier this year. It was fast on the racetrack, and sure-footed on the off-road track. Seating position will be lower than the ML500. Total cargo room will be impeded by the "fastback" tailgate shape compared to the Q5's more traditional squareback. My favorite styling cue is the taillight design. Favorite functional design is the way that air is channeled into the grill, up inside the bonnet, and down into the intake filter boxes (although this is not visible when the bonnet is shut). Kinda like the ol' Ram Air contrivances.
Umm... what else would you like to know? I don't own one, but perhaps I can shed some more light on the matter.
Get the Macan Turbo. I really liked it too and wife was very interested in getting rid of her Cayenne S for it. We never get the first year model of any vehicle, so we may wait a year or two.
It's going to be smaller than the ML, but I guess it depends on your needs in that area. Even the 958 Cayenne is lacking in that department in my opinion due to the rake of the d-pillar.
I haven't driven a Macan yet, but as impressed as I am with my 958 I can't imagine being disappointed with the handling of the Macan.
It' a stunner. Like a low slung beefed up Q5. I haven't driven one, but I will stop by the dealership soon. My only concern is its big brother's initial quality issues. Hopefully, P has learned its sour (get it) lesson. I would still wait until its second year however.
Ours arrived yesterday at the dealer! Picking it up in a few days! I had the chance to do 12 laps around a Porsche sponsored intro in May, 6 laps in an "S" and 6 in the Turbo.
The Macan is a high quality build, took to the track turns like a Porsche should and both versions
were simply a blast to drive "all out" around the track following a Cayman pace setting car.
There is a noticeable difference in storage area in the rear compared to our Cayenne but in our case we never really stuffed up the Cayenne to the top of the rear window so I am sure we won't miss the extra space.
It is a lovely looking car and we look forward to driving it soon!
By the way, the "S" version is also a twin turbo, plenty fast and less expensive than the "Turbo".
Pete
just make sure you are up to the turbo engine.
nothing beat naturally aspirated engines... the old cayenne S was the last one of a dying breed.
turbo lag is really annoying. they offer these great marketing numbers for mpg, 0-60 and if all you do is highway they are great but as soon as you get into stop and go city driving they suck!
As expected, the 996 guys come through with flying colors! Thanks Guys!
We bought the ML 5 years ago when my wife became pregnant with my eldest son. However, my younger boy can walk on his own 2 feet now and we don't need a lot of space for strollers, play pans, and other crap!
Test drove the Macan S. Feels very much like a sports car. Very unnoticable body roll. Really no Turbo lag since it kicks in at about 1500 RPM; hey you put your foot on the gas and you're already at 2000 RPM. Love the PDK! Interior is gorgeous. Back-row is tight in legroom and hip room for 3 people but most of the time our ML is empty or just the 4 of us, so we should be good. Trunk depth is not bad, but height suffers a bit.
So, I'm totally getting it, but I can't wait a year. After-all, it comes with warranty and issues would be resolved by the dealer. I just hope that I don't get inconvenienced too often. I'm just waiting for the 2 tone beige/black to become available which is supposed to happen in October.
My buddy just picked his up - loves it!! Traded in his Cayenne S.
As for turbo lag, should be a non-issue. Turbo lag has been worked out of most if not all new cars I would think. Having said that, I had a Saab 9-5 with the 2.3 turbo - loved it!!!
I had a 9-5 Aero sedan, 6MT. One of my favorite cars ever! But turbo lag was crazy in that car. Turbo torque steer was hard to manage.
My neighbor has a new BMW X5 5.0 twin turbo. The turbo lag in that car is terrible... almost (but not quite) as bad as the Saab...
I have a 14 Cayenne (wife car). I own a 15 Macan S. Great car. All cars have little "quirks". This car is nothing like a Cayenne. It's really a 911 with 4 doors
Fast, smooth, responsive, and better looking than the Cayenne, in my opinion. Have had the car since May. I love it. The PDK transmission is off the chart, and the twin turbos make this a joy to drive. I considered the Turbo, but for almost 20K more, it didn't make sense to me. Go drive one. I would be surprised if you are not impressed.
Test drove a Macan Turbo on the Porsche World Road show. It is impressive for an SUV and pretty quick for what it is. I dont think you'll be disappointed coming from another SUV.
I dont get the naming convention though..both engines are turbo'd. Why not just go with Macan and Macan S ?
Tell me what manufacturer is free from problems:

That being said, I enjoy my 996 everyday. I think Porsche makes excellent cars.
Hey man, you're preaching to the choir and anyone that knows me knows half my posts are full of sarcasm.
With that said, not too many manufacturers with $20k+ problems.
I've heard there is a 4 cylinder and a small engine diesel on its way to the US. The diesel is already available in EU. But the plain Macan name has been reserved for the small 4-stroker. Still waiting for the additional 2 tone interiors to become available for the builds before I put my order in. WTF is taking so long Porsche?!
Dennis: Nice ride dude!
An all Porsche driveway!
The Macan is a Porsche through and through!
Love it.
For me it was an easy decision to sell the Merc C350, take the Cayenne from my wife as my winter DD and get her the new Macan.
(neighbors are really starting to talk)
My wife is at a PCNA event at Summit Point right now. She was impressed with the Macan (and Panny) in the AutoX. If it is equally impressive on the road course (and I expect it will be) we might be looking at an all Porsche parking lot too.
At least I don't have to worry about her wanting one of the cars as I've told her she'd have to let the 996 go and that isn't gonna happen
